I’m studying abroad in Italy at the moment, and know very little Italian. The other day however I saw two young lesbian women making out in front of a Catholic church.

I didn’t say anything for 2 reasons. I don’t know Italian and it’s much more common for young couples to be more affectionate here in Italy that the US.

Looking back, should I have said “No” or something? It’s a tricky situation because I wouldn’t know how to say that they shouldn’t do that in Italian

Are you bothered that there were 2 women “making out” in public? or are you bothered that they were doing that in front of a church?

What do you mean by “making out”? I mean, did they simply share a kiss as any couple might when the mood strikes? or where they really going at it like 2 kids in the back seat of a car?

I am willing to bet that they took no notice of the fact they were standing in front of a church and honestly, it is not your place or mine or anyones to play the PDA police, unless ofcourse they were literally stripping down to have sex right then and there

Most likely… and this is just a guess, they were doing it in protest of the Churches stance on homosexuality much like when the pope was in Spain there was a “kiss in”. just pray for them as you would if you saw anyone sinning against our Lord.

They were in their 20s. They were sharing more than a peck, but less than 2 kids in the back of a car. I was offended both because they were lesbians and it’s against God’s law, and because it was right in front of a church

Know How You Feel. I would Not have Said Anything, though. They’ll have to Answer For Their Actions on Earth “In The End.”👍

I probably would have reacted the same as you did being caught off guard.

It’s difficult to say what I would have done depending on how long they were kissing and how intimately passionate.

I don’t speak fluent Italian either though I can read and understand some Italian from having no problem setting up the Italian Roman Missale and Lectionaire when I was a sacristan during Italian Masses.

Depending on the length of these two women making a disturbance I might have got out of my pew quietly and spoke English or French to them hoping they would stop their embarrassment or kindly leave the Church and go elsewhere.

I can tell you that I know of some priests that would have momentarily stopped Mass and would have clearly told them to leave.

Peace
Chris

If I were you i wouldn’t have said anything. It wasn’t like they were “rounding the bases”. If you had said something it just would have most likely caused a disturbance because you can’t speak Italian and they most likely would have thought you were saying “No” on them being gay, not them kissing in front of a Church.

You really shouldn’t assume that. Not all gay people hate the Church. My BF and I don’t. We completely disagree with the Church’s stance on homosexuality, obviously lol :p, but we were both APPALLED at the “kiss in”. It was just SO disrespectful of not only the Pope but EVERY Catholic and the faith in general.

Just FYI if I read OP’s first message this happened outside the Church not inside during Mass.

Your correct. Maybe the OP can clarify
two young lesbian women making out in front of a Catholic church.
If this was a Mass outside in public then this kind of behavioral rhetoric is a completely different issue.

But it wouldn’t be the first time congregations inside or outside the Church have witnessed strange behaviors.

Yep, they were leaning against the front of the church. Outside though
