**I was told, to be careful, with "Peace be with You"as Only a Bishop , Priest or Deacon could give that Blessing?**is it because in scripture that it is only Jesus who says it, or maybe Peter and Paul to?Why not I, as when hiking I say it and I get a real nice response…

Who told you this?

It’s all I ever said at the Sign of Peace before Communion at Mass…I mean, we are offering each other peace: What exactly are we supposed to say? 🤷

Eastern Rite Catholics and Orthodox in the mideast all say the same either in Arabic or Aramaic. I imagine Hebew-speaking Christians – including Catholics – all say “Shalom aleichem”.

Maybe we’re not supposed to say “The Lord be with you”…seems I read on one of these forums, it’s OK to say “God bless you”, but giving someone a formal blessing (with the sign of the Cross) was reserved to the clergy, with someone stating an exception of the head of a family giving such a blessing to his children.

I dunno, I’m ignorant of that, so I am sure that one of the many worthies here will GENTLY point out my error…😃

Surely even at Mass when the priest says “Peace be with you” or “the Lord be with you”, it is not just a one-sided “blessing” (it would probably be more correctly referred to as an invocation or something?]). We all reply with “and also with you”. I can’t see how asking for the peace of Christ to be with someone could be wrong. I agree with Ghoti that a formal blessing, such as at the end of Mass - “May almighty God bless you…”- ought not be used by laypersons… To further agree with you Ghoti, I am happy for someone more enlightened than I on such matters to graciously correct me!!

The kiss of peace was incorparated into the Mass in 1972 at the higth of the War in Vietnam, because the people of the US wanted and demonstrated for Peace,We need your Peace Lord thats what we Pray for…

I can’t see it being wrong when we offer each other peace during Mass. HMMMM.
