We are Christians, are we not? We are pilgrims on a journey - we are not home on this earth. The Lord has lovingly cared for us this far, and He will most certainly not abandon us now. What he will do is take note of that faith which we profess. As to faith, an epidemic is often a call to prayer, but a pandemic which may eventually touch all of our lives - much like cancer - seems much more to be a test of our faith. What do we believe?
Our Lord left us peace. His peace He gave us. Do we set it aside in times of worry and consternation? Or, do we embrace it and allow it to penetrate to the core of our being? Many questions, but all human tragedy is an unmistakable call to faith, with a focus on maintaining the peace which our Savior gave us.
From the Franciscans, here is a very encouraging, insightful and even motivational video by Dr. Mark Miravalle, Professor of Theology and Mariology at Franciscan University of Steubenville. He relates the “corona” virus with the coronation of the Blessed Mother, and her tremendous intercessory power.
May the peace of Christ be with all of us.
