Peaches

Depends on where you got them.

Earlier this summer, peaches, along with several other fruits, were recalled because of a link with Listeria monocytogenes.

I work in the microbiology department of our hospital lab, and none of us in the dept. have eaten peaches this summer. We’re a paranoid group when it comes to bacteria!

This might explain why I have seen so few peaches in the stores here. I hadn’t heard about the recall, and it was driving me nuts to not find any because peaches are second only to raspberries as a favorite food. Suddenly, I’m not so disappointed…

By the way, why do they call it “canning”? Shouldn’t they call it “jarring”?

Nope.

Noun: Old English ***canne ***“a cup, container,” from Proto-Germanic ****kanna ***… Probably an early borrowing from Late Latin ***canna ***“container, vessel,”

So “canning” in terms of putting in a container predates (tin) cans.

Donate them to the local food shelter, it is so rare that they get fresh fruits or Veggies. So if anyone has extra veggies check with your shelter also.
