OK, but I’m confused on the context you’re thinking of.
Yeah…me too. In any case I’ve said my bit. I don’t agree that the priest in the OP was right or prudent and I really don’t think this is something that needs to be said.

One such case in the Bible deserves to be mentioned,
when the Exiles returned toJerusalem, it was discovered
that they had mixed w/ the non-jews in marriage and thus
compromised their separation as God’s ppl. how was THAT
resolved? By RIGHTING THE WRONG and causing those who
did this to confess and renounce their sin and PUT AWAY
their foreign wives and children!! See the last chapter of Ezra.

Just to butt in here to say that the victim will have a threat hanging over them from the time of the abuse. A case in point, a man had a threat which involved his mother. It wasn’t until his mother died that the threat passed and he was able to tell of his abuse, and he was in his mid 50’s by then. Old cases surface decades later and this can often be the cause.

True, but it still makes the case lack evidence that would have been there earlier. I understand that trauma makes talking about abuse psychologically impossible. However, the consequences of that silence do not disappear because it is understandable. There still can be an abuser that goes on abusing. There still can be degradation or lack of physical evidence making prosecution unjust, or impossible, or even economic recovery unjust.

Not sure what you mean by “a threat”. And, I’m definitely skeptical of your assertion that there is always a “threat hanging over them” in every case, as opposed to claiming that there could be such an instance. Care to elaborate?
