Evidently the cross Stupack has been carrying became too heavy when Obama dangled a carrot in front of his nose, because he tossed that cross pretty darn fast in my opinion with the promise of an Executive Order.

We seem to see a lot of Catholics in public office use their religion as a symbol to promote their agenda rather than a way of life and belief. Shame on Pelosi for announcing she prayed to a saint for this healthcare mess to pass. Shame on Biden for parading around on Ash Wednesday with ashes on his forehead making sure the cameras got a view of him, and shame on Stupack for carrying the cross only so far, until it wasn’t comfortable for him any longer.

I agree. Very shameful, and very sad how the leadership of the Church sits and watches Catholics in VERY PROMINENT leadership positions continually step on the faith.

Regardless it is really foolish for someone to use a religion to further there political plans, especially if they use one that’s against there goals!

Catholicism may be opposed to abortion but half of all Catholics support pro-abortion politicians and they do so precisely because they can convince themselves that it is proper to do so. Pelosi uses her Catholicism to appeal to Catholics who support her social policies and are anxious to justify overlooking her stance on abortion. Twenty-five percent of the electorate are Catholics; that’s way too large a block of voters to ignore.

If Catholics actually opposed abortion, as opposed to giving it lip service, it could be eliminated. Still, given that the bishops only pay it lip service themselves, it is not surprising that the people who look to them for guidance have gone astray as well.

I don’t think anything could more completely expose the utter failure of the bishops to fulfill their roles as teachers and leaders than to see such a high profile Catholic politician as Nancy Pelosi make a public appeal to Catholics to use their faith in the service of a political agenda. It is not so much Pelosi who should be the object of our anger but rather the bishops who have been conspicuous in not confronting the brand of Catholicism she’s been selling.

I have little doubt but that many Catholics are quite comfortable with her form of Catholicism and that of organizations like “Catholics” for Choice, “Catholics” United, and “Catholics” for the Common Good and why wouldn’t they? The bishops have abandoned Catholic teaching to those organizations, pretending that quiet dialog and dignified statements of concern will suffice. It’s more like the shepherds are afraid of the wolves and have simply abandoned their flocks. Apparently they didn’t learn from the sex abuse scandals that accommodation isn’t an effective way of resolving problems.

The American Bishops approve of this healthcare bill except for the government funding of abortion AND even then it would force us to pay for some sort of health insurance. The point is the governement is taking away our freedom, one bit at a time. The American Bishops are liberal. Since I’ve been active in contacting representatives and doing everything I can do as a lay person it was not until the bitter end did we really hear from the Bishops. In my opinion this IS the Churches fault, all of it.
The fruit is rotten and it stinks, there needs to be an awakening of the Catholic Lay people to get with it and get active.Period. There were so few of us really getting all the underhanded information out into the parishes.

Ms. Pelosi knows what she is doing AND she knows that abortion is against the Catholic faith. People need to stop watching American Idol and educate themselves when they vote for a president/representatives because they sure have put on AND are putting on a good show despite our truly best interests. Freedom? Change, oh ya.

That was the only way Stupack would be on board to insure no language would change on the way to the President’s desk. The order was in addition to the healthcare bill. When the president signed the bill today it also became part of the law? The order is now irrelevant because it is already in the healthcare bill…got it?

Not only does the executive order FALL SHORT of the Stupak language, it WILL BE OVERTURNED in the courts. It is counter to already established Supreme Court rulings (on legislation, not executive orders, can place such protections). The pro-abortion lobby will soon sue and they will win.

The executive order is a toothless, political smokescreen.
