my penece in confession yesturday was to do something honorable for my parents…what might this be? the preist said it could be anything…but im not sure…

I’m assuming that you are not an adult? If this is true, you could simply be respectful and obedient to your parents, which is the best way to “honor” them. In other words, don’t talk back, don’t roll your eyes when asked to do something, don’t have an “attitude”, etc. Any of these things would constitute honoring your parents. Good luck!

This could be anything like making them a cup of tea. However, you should make a greater effort to obey them even when what they ask may not be the best thing (only if what they want is not sinful of course). That is difficult, but if we can be obedient to our parents, we can be friendly and obedient to anyone.

You could also say a decade of the Rosary for them and their salvation.

God bless.

These are great suggestions. According to the Saints, obedience is one that is very pleasing to God too.

Almost any good work we do will honour our parents - because we are their child, but the decade of the Rosary suggested by stuart12 would have that added edge of also honouring both the Father and the Mother whom Jesus wishes to share with us . 👍

im 20… i live in detroit and we just got a foot of snow (give or take an inch). i wiped my moms car off this morning and started it up for her as she gets ready to take my dad to the airport. i also wiped the kitchen floor twice yesturday because of the muddy paws my dogs came in with… does this satisify penence?

I would say that is a good start, but I think the priest in giving you that as a penance wasn’t just thinking of a few good deeds but asking you to reconsider some of your other behaviors and hoping for a more lasting change.

Obviously I don’t know you but just generally the idea of confession and penance is to bring about conversion from past behaviors to ones that are more pleasing to God and to change your outlook and actions so you naturally do the right things and move away from the things that were wrong.

I think you have satisfied completion of your specific penance by doing these kind and honorable tasks for your parents. As a parent myself, I certainly would have appreciated the kind deeds. Even though they, technically, were for your mom, as a father, I would have been very proud of you for what you did without being asked, and I think that both parents were therefore “honored” by your actions. Good job! By the way, sorry for assuming that you were just a “kid” in my earlier Post! I should have realized that we are never too old, nor too grownup to honor our parents.
