Perhaps this is not the correct forum for this question – if so, forgive me.
Growing up, I became accustomed to the Penetential Rite (“I confess to Almighty God…”) being a standard part of the Mass. I lapsed for many years, and only recently resumed attending Mass. Since coming back, I am unable to think of a Mass I’ve attended that included the Penetential Rite – and that includes Masses in three states!
What happened? Did I miss something (again)? I rather like the Penetential Rite, and always saw it as the moment in which we “confess” before our fellow man – a nice complement to the very private nature of the confessional.
Peace,
Dante
