Pentecost and Mother’s day coincide this year. Is it a stretch of the imagination for catholics? I don’t know if it should be. Just prior to the account of Pentecost in Acts Chapter 2, we are told in Acts 1:14 that our Blessed Mother was in the apostles’ company, and that (Acts 2:1) when the day of Pentecost came it found them gathered in one place.

The invitation of this thread is for members to post anything that connects the Holy Spirit and our Blessed Mother, and / or mothers…even if only remotely; and to comment on the posts if desired.

Here’s my starter: It’s a tribute to mothers composed by Joseph Cardinal Mindszenty (who was ordained by the Holy Spirit and) who was sustained by the Holy Spirit during a protracted persecution.

The most important person… on earth is a Mother.
She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral.
She need not.
She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral –
A dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby’s body.
The angels have not been blessed with such a grace.
They cannot share in God’s creative miracle to bring new souls to Heaven.
Only a human mother can.
Mothers are closer to God the creator than any other creature.
God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation…
What on God’s good earth is more glorious than this:
To be a mother?

Joseph Cardinal Mindszenty

Have a holy Pentecost everyone and happy Mother’s Day !

Actually I noticed this today. What a wonderful day for Mothers everywhere to celebrate our day with that of the Holy Spirit!

OP, you asked for any connection between the Holy Spirit and Mary, the Mother of God. A very important connection is that “He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary”!

I heard today Mother’s Day was started exactly 100 years ago. (Was it a Hallmark thing?) Fell on quite a few Pentecosts during that time, I would think.

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers, grandmothers, pet owners, and a special one to Our Lady.

Psalm 139:13

“Truly you have formed my inmost being; you knit me in my mother’s womb.”

Personally I wonder, if ,after the Tabernacle, there is anywhere on earth more beautiful than a mother’s womb.

We had our parish May crowning on that Sunday as well as a blessing of all the mothers. It was great.

To throw this in there, the first thing Father said in his homily was did you all feel that mighty rushing wind this morning? And all of us had a “duh” moment because we didn’t connect the huge gusts of wind that were going on that day!! 😛 But when we got outside after Mass everyone was talking about it. It was really sunny and pretty but ever couple of minutes there were HUGE gusts of wind. The Lord blessed our area Pentecost Sunday!!👍
