Happy Birthday to the Church this weekend. Wishing all of you blessed and Spirit-filled Masses! Can’t wait to sing the Kendzia Pentecost Sequence, a favorite of the people and the choirs.

A few years ago, my own birthday was on the same day; this year one day later…close enough if you count the Vigil! LOL!

My parish has taken up the tradition of the Pantheon and drops rose petals from the ceiling during the recessional hymn… it’s an amazing sight, with incense and all

I once visited a church doing this.

Unfortunately, I was processing with the Knights of Columbus, so could not look up to see how they did it without an oculus. 👁️

We have a little attic where we change the light bulbs in between the structural roof and interior roof. we usually just take out a whole light socket and drop them through there

I cannot believe you just posted that. Years ago, our previous pastor was big on people wearing red, a tradition that has really gone away over the years.

As I walked in to rehearsal tonight, one of my tenors said, “so red this Sunday?” My response was, “I will, but many parishioners do not do that anymore. It’s not a requirement! LOL.”

I always thought it was something that “we” did at one time, and was surprised at your post. I guess many other parishes follow this “tradition.”

I’ve never heard of this! I wonder how widespread it is/was? Does anybody else do it or have memories of doing it?

In the Byzantine Church, we use green for Pentecost. By tradition, (but not rubric), Vestments are green and the church is decked out in greenery . Some parishes practically turn the church into a forest with all the branches and leaves. We have a “kneeling prayer” before the liturgy begins to signify the return to kneeling in prayer after the Paschal season, during which we don’t kneel at all. We also see the return of singing the hymn to the Holy Spirit, “Heavenly King Comforter”.

Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome drops white flowers on Aug 5th 432, the consecration day. It is to symbolise the snow that had fallen and marked where the church was supposed to be built. Read the story of how it came to be built. It is an enormous church (actually a basilica) so spend a couple of hours there when you go to Rome. Try to make it on Sunday high mass as the dome is lit during that Mass. My parish church fits in one of the side chapels.

Can’t believe we are near the end of the Easter season already. There are so many more celebrations with Sacrament of Confirmation and Holy Trinity Sunday that the Easter season seems to last a very long time before we are back in ordinary time.
