Share a part of the sermon you heard today on Pentecost Sunday and let’s see what new insights we all may draw from them. Our pastor focused on the fact that each of us has been given Gifts of the Holy Spirit. What have we done to find out what gifts we have been given to share amongst our brothers and sisters in faith and not in faith to help the Kingdom of God growing?

Is there a course of action for that?🙂

We’ve all been given the gift of languages. Most are non-verbal, many based on shared experiences with others, but all are valuable and neccessary. We should not ignore them when they come in to play.

The celebrant at Mass brought up the incident in John’s gospel (I think) that right after the resurrection, Jesus breathed on the apostles saying “receive the Holy Spirit; whosever sins you forgive are forgiven.” The, after the Ascension, the Holy Spirit descends in tongues of fire. Question, is Pentecost, redundant? Or was it some kind of supernatural “booster shot?”:sad_yes::nope::hug3:

Wish they had an emoji for “tongue in cheek.”

The priest said just because we believe in the Trinity & accept all the rules of the Church it doesn’t guarantee us a direct line to Heaven. If we gossip about people or are rude to them, etc. we need to confess, and not just to God, we must go to a priest in Confession, before receiving communion!

In our church the pastor said that no matter
WHAT language is our mother tongue we
are all One in Christ.

our pastor asked for money again for an addition…

Our priest said that the speaking done by the apostles at Pentecost was in direct contrast to the incident at the tower of Babel where God confused the languages… on Pentecost they were all together praying for guidance from the Holy Spirit in order to carry out the will of the Father and at Babel they were working for their own honor and glory…

I had never thought about that before…

The priest, who is originally from Mexico, had a pretty long, and meaningful, homily. Here are some things of note.

-One of the reasons he likes Pentecost is that he gets to speak in his native tongue because we’ll all understand him. (This got a chuckle.)
-When we look at the mission we have in our life and think, “How can I do this?” the answer is one day at a time.
-When he was ordained, on Pentecost Sunday, his bishop gave him some advice. May times in his ministry he would see priests and think “I want to have the humor of this priest.” or “I want to have the compassion of this priest.” and so on, but to not let them distract him because it’s Christ that we need to imitate.

Also, he read a prayer that was called something like “One step on the path” that, if I heard correctly, is also one that Pope Francis has prayed. I had a tough time understanding him as he recited it so if anyone has the words, I’d be thankful if you shared it.
