People questioning the popes infalliblity

Commentators have described Pope Benedict’s recent expressions of regret as close to a rare papal apology. But how, they ask, can a man believed by Catholics to be “infallible” make a mistake?

I think once again this article is produced from the lack of understanding on what papal infallilbity actually is.

Yes, the confusion of “infallibility” with “impeccability” appears to be a pandemic, doesn’t it?

I have given up on the secular media as a source of news for me. I’ll stick to CA and EWTN, thank you very much. I’ll take the “good news” over the “news” any day. . .

I agree, the article did a pretty good job of laying out the definition of infallibility. Some of the comments on the web page made it evident that the person did not even read the article.

Um, I did read the article. Sorry I was obviously having a major synapse break, because my comments were meant to address the pandemic of confusion among those who did not understand the differences; so that thus articles like these, even written by secular media, seem to have little or no impact. For how many decades have there been articles, and teachings, yet many STILL do not understand? And for each BBC article which presents decent information, how many tens of thousands of AP and independent articles are there that get it wrong all over again?

Like I said, I was having a major synapse break. Thanks to those of you who caught this so that I could clarify and apologize for a very deficient text! Mea culpa!

(I hope you don’t take this as a pity party or excuse factory but the fact is I sent the original post response earlier today before I had what was obviously a very needed IV iron infusion. Now that the cells have more energy hopefully I won’t pull another boner so quickly!)

I agree. I was expecting to be dissapointed in it, but it actually did explain that infallibillity does not mean that he cannot make a mistake, and explained that the pope doesn’t make infallible statements all the time.
