People taking the Lord's Name in vain

Why do people so often do this? Someone I follow on Twitter used the Lord’s Name in vain, should I unfollow them?
 
I’m not sure about the twitter thing. However, when someone in my presence, uses the Lord’s Name in vain I usually make the sign of the cross and say amen. When they (invariably :)) look at me I say, “Oh, I thought you were praying. I was just joining in.” I find it to be a gentle and still effective measure.
 
Taking God’s name in vain is not only “verbal”. And “God” is not His Name.
