Since yesterday was Palm Sunday, the priest had us go out of the “worship space” (gag) into the “gathering space” (gag again) for the liturgy of the palms. Two men (who were certainly old enough to know better- they were about twice my age!) were chatting away- out loud for all to hear- about things that had nothing to do with Mass- even while the priest was praying the prayers. I am not known for admonishing strangers- especially not if they are older than me, but I do not tolerate irreverence- at least not when I am in an easy position to put a stop to it.
Women and teenagers are stereotyped as being especially chatty- but as far as I’ve seen, the chattiest people at church are 50-60 year old men. It is pretty sad when someone less than half their age has to set them straight.
