Ignorance could really only go as far as “oops, hey I’m still holding Jesus in my hand and I’m half way back to my seat.” Even if people don’t agree with Holy Mother Church and say “it’s just bread.” There would be no excuse for putting it in a bush or throwing it in the parking lot. That would almost never happen at some non-denominational or Protestant church.
A lot of people who receive Jesus and take Him outside of Mass and then throw Him on the ground do it probably because they think they’re funny. Exactly as Constantine said, they don’t have anything better to do with their time–that’s their legit reason. They want to rebel against the Church, and they see that as their opportunity to be cool and radical.
A lot people who do these kinds of things know exactly what they’re doing though. They know and believe that it is Jesus Christ and they want to desecrate Him as much as possible. They may not be lighting Him on fire or bringing him to a black mass, but they are still completely desecrating the Eucharist. The want Him to be brought down, and this is the way they’re going to try it.
Now, we could say best case scenario, this young woman has a sick family member and was going to bring her the Eucharist. Highly unlikely, but we can try and give her the benefit of the doubt.
Agreed.
