Yes, I think I have a tendency towards this as well. I’m a pretty mellow, quiet person IRL. (No, really, it’s true). I’d rather just keep the water steady and go about my business. While I recognized this was due to their illness, it is not okay to repeatedly use someone else as an emotional punching bag because you are unwell. They both got into patterns of acting out with me because I was a friend of long standing and they thought I would just put up with it.
Over time, I’ve learned to keep these types of people at a distance. Usually they’re the ones who can have a great sense of humor and have a strong opinion about things, so I can appreciate those aspects, and am drawn to that, naturally, but I don’t carve my life out for them, just take a detached approach. I am currently living with teens and adolescents.

When Im on CAF, life can be like a box of chocolates… I keep things somewhat reliably cantankerous by consistently engaging in the curmudgeon threads. A special thank you to all those friends on here who are reliably cantankerous. Except for Cruciferous. You know who you are.
