People who should be Saints

I started this thread to simply have people show who they think showed heroic Christian virtue and who they would like to have devotions for in the future. It is in no way trying to make a “vote” of one of the most important and holiest thing the Church can do. I am sorry that the way it was written came off as that and if any person thought that it was it is not…this decision is up to the Church and God alone. We can aid by our prayers. Not even up to the Church ultimately - the final confirmation comes by way of two miracles (one in the case of martyrs) - so God, as always, has the final word.

So none of this ‘I wish they’d get around to making Blessed Margaret of Castello (or whoever) a saint …’ because ‘they’ have by now done all that is humanly possible, and it is up to God to provide the miracle needed for canonisation and complete the process, and who are we to be impatient with Him?

He was not a liberation theologian.

This is coming from a more traditional-minded Catholic.

He is a saint.

God MAKES individuals saints when He admits them into Heaven.

The Church RECOGNIZES certain saints based on a thorough examination of their lives and upon verified miracles. It takes a lot of effort by the Church to preclude ‘guessing’ who is known by us to be a saint.

There just are not that many Churchmen who are qualified with the time to investigate and not that many reported instances where a miracle may have happened that merit a detailed investigation.

I think the process must start with the local Bishop. Usually a group approaches that Bishop with their evidence that an individual is a saint and should be recognized publically.

I believe private devotion to a ‘person who should be a saint’ is allowed. We should always remember that a saints ask God to grant our requests.

I’d like to know which individuals are in the process of being reviewed for possible recognition as a saint besides Blessed Pope John Paul II.
 
Sorry, but I am not capable of determining who is, or should be, considered to be a Saint.

I will leave it to my Church to make those determinations, and to accept their decisions.
 
There was a priest that lived in a monastry near Cork called Fr Athanasius who was absolutely incredible, he could read your heart and he was also said to have appeared in more than one place at once, similar to St Pio. Infact, some people refer to him as Pio in the north.

I had the pleasure of visiting him just last year, I can say that he was most definately able to read hearts without a shadow of a doubt. During my stay at the monastry I also saw birds land at his feet! Whether the Church recognises him as a saint or not, that man is certainly a saint in heaven.

He passed away not long after my visit last year, I would have loved to get to know him more.

I don’t know if anyone here knows about her, but I’d say Charlene Richard. She was diagnosed with leukemia at a young age, and took up her cross with faith in God and love. The priest attending her said she would always offer up her sufferings for others. She died when she was 12. There have been several reports of miracles through her intercession: charlenerichard.net/#!

Uh-Father Damien of MOLOKAI (that’s how it’s spelled) is already a Saint, as of October 2009.

And yes, I would like to see Kateri TEKAKWITHA canonized, too! She was born in Upstate NY, only an hour’s drive from where I live.

Continuing this thread–I’d like to see canonized:

Blessed Marianne Cope (she lived her early life in my hometown)
Venerable Maria Teresa Quevedo (was very surprised she was not chosen as a WYD patron, seeing she was from Madrid, Spain)
Blesseds Francisco and Jacinta of Fatima
Venerable Pope Pius XII

Just a few off the top of my head here. 😉 😃
 
Cardinal Mindszenty,Well, I recognize this is all purely hypothetical and not up to us at all, so allow me to submit a short list of “people who have not been declared saints, but who I hope someday will be, because their saintly actions inspire me.”

And, since speculation about who should be a saint is kind of “iffy,” I will submit only a few whose causes have already been opened.
  • Ven. Vincent Capodanno, US military chaplain
  • Ven. Emil Kapaun, US military chaplain
  • Ven. Jozsef Mindszenty, Cardinal Archbishop of Esztergom, opponent of Fascism and Communism.
More people should learn about Cardinal Mindszenty, in my opinion. His witness to the Faith in the face of political oppression was every bit as brave as the great Saints Becket, Moore, and Fisher.
