Does anyone know any Catholic that has the gift of discernment? I’m referring to something similar to Padre Pio. During his time, there were many people who came to Padre Pio to ask for prayers and advice on what to do, including with regards to their vocation.

Living, deceased, saints?

The late Rev. Father Benedict Joseph Groeschel, CFR was one - I believe - with such a gift.

I have sort of a feeling like I have it because I can look at the lifestyle and habits of people I know, and see where they are headed, and also where their children are probably headed, but I see this as primarily cognitive. It’s not much different than a doctor “predicting” lung and heart ailments for a heavy smoker. Much of what I see has to do with spoiling children. Most people have no idea how much they spoil their kids. This is the root of the heroin epidemic, and people seem mystified when an addict comes from “a good home”, but this does not mystify me.

I once confessed to a monk that knew things that I did not say. I do not know where he is now though. He and his group were suppressed… .someone else’s sin in the group, not his. ← but that is just another example of where the brightest lights are, there you will also find the darkest shadows.

Yes. “Satan prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

Not an easy gift to live with and better not spoken of. To be used with discretion and humility and a painful gift also.

Living, do you know of any?
If you’re looking for someone like this, the only thing I could think of is to try to get a hold of an exorcist, who may in turn know such a person. I think persons with these gifts are often utilized by exorcists.

But I think it’s also true that real discernment is reserved to the Church, and this is a grace given to Bishops, for example, when analyzing certain phenomena like apparitions.

It can be and is a fairly everyday thing to some degree , depending on the awareness of the person. But often not to be broadcast or shared.
