I just love the spirituality of St. Louis De Montfort!!! I pray he will be someday declared a Doctor of the Church for his True Devotion to Mary Spirituality.

True Devotion to Mary is the fastest route to holiness. Mary takes you by the hand and gently leads you to her Son.

First, read True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin, by St. Louis De Montfort. It is an introduction to this spirituality.

Then read The Secret of Mary by St. Louis De Montfort. This outlines perfect practice of True Devotion to Mary and what it entails:

Then, pick an appropriate time for the Consecration.

This is available in podcast or online in print form.

Another Consecration Website

And from there, continue the recommended practices without ceasing, with annual renewal of the Consecration.

This is enough to get you started.

The End Cause of this devotion is Jesus:

“The more the Holy Ghost finds Mary, His dear and inseparable spouse, in any soul, the more active and mighty He becomes in producing Jesus Christ in that soul, and that soul in Jesus Christ.” — St. Louis De Montfort.

God Bless!

Any questions—just ask. I’m fairly well-versed in St. Louis De Montfort.

Where to start?

Read True Devotion to Mary first.

Read The Secret of Mary second.

Select an appropriate day for the 40 day Consecration to Mary.

And start practicing it. The outline for this spirituality is contained in both True Devotion to Mary and the Secret of Mary.

And from there, you may want to peruse the articles contained in Jesus in Mary. This book is a modern interpretation and commentary on various aspects of St. Louis’s spirituality.

And God bless you!

From the book Jacket of True Devotion to Mary, (Imprimatur), the edition translated by Father Frederick Faber:

“True Devotion to Mary by St. Louis Marie Grignion De Montfort (1673-1716) is considered to be the greatest single book on the Blessed Virgin Mary ever written. Seemingly divinely inspired, it is the classic statement on the spiritual way to Jesus Christ through the Blessed Virgin Mary. Beloved by countless souls, this book sums up the entire Christian life, showing a way of holiness that is short, easy, secure and perfect—a way of life chosen by Our Lord Himself, as explained here by the “Apostle of Mary.”

Yet this holy way to Jesus through Mary remains unknown to most Catholics—even to many of the wisest and most spiritual among them. This is undoubtedly due in large part to the work of Satan, who cannot endure that Mary should be so successful in bringing souls to her Divine Son. In fact, St. Louis De Montfort predicted that the devil would try to bury True Devotion to Mary; and indeed, his precious manuscript lay hidden all during the 1700’s, and was finally brought to light only in the year 1842, when it was found in a chest of old books. But even today, most Catholics still do not realize that God Himself has chosen Mary as the perfect means for Christians to become entirely devoted to His service.

In this beautiful and sublimely inspiring book, St. Louis De Montfort explains the wonderful spiritual effects which True Devotion to Mary brings about in a person’s life, leaving the reader with no doubt that this devotion provides the key to both sanctity and to salvation. In fact, no Catholic should pass beyond the age of 20 without having read True Devotion to Mary. For there is no better way to advance quickly in holiness, no better way to please God, and no better way to guarantee one’s eternal salvation than True Devotion to Mary.

St. Louis De Montfort prophesied in this book that True Devotion to Mary would be the way of life adopted by the saints of the latter times. This popular edition of True Devotion to Mary is being presented in the hope that it may please God to raise up a great multitude of such saints—and that the readers of this book may be included in that holy company.”

A couple of years ago I went to a powerful retreat where the retreat master highly recommended this book, and true devotion to Mary. His conferences were awesome, and he gave many insights about the efficacy of this devotion.

I believe this devotion, or lifestyle, is the most powerful devotion available in the Church today. None surpasses it.

And the thing is — it’s so simple!

Plus, you only need read one or two short books to do it. True Devotion to Mary is only 215 pages long, while the Secret of Mary is basically a booklet.

As far as I know, all of St. Louis De Montfort’s writings have valid Imprimaturs.

**
What have the Popes said about this devotion?
**

Pope Pius IX declared that St. Louis De Montfort’s devotion to Mary was the best and most acceptable form of devotion to Our Lady.

Pope Leo XIII granted a plenary indulgence to those who make St. Louis De Montfort’s act of consecration to the Blessed Virgin. On his deathbed he renewed the act himself and invoked the heavenly aid of St. Louis De Montfort, whom he had beatified in 1888.

Pope St. Pius X: “I heartily recommend True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin, so admirably written by Blessed De Montfort, and to all who read it grant the Apostolic Benediction.”

Pope Benedict XV: “A book of high authority and unction.”

Pope Pius XI: “I have practiced this devotion since my youth.”

Pope Pius XII: “The greatest force behind his [St. Louis De Montfort’s] apostolic ministry and his great secret for attracting and winning souls for Jesus was his devotion to Mary.” (From Canonization address, July 20, 1947).
**
Pope Paul VI:** “We are convinced without any doubt that devotion to Our Lady is essentially joined with devotion to Christ, that it assures a firmness of conviction to faith in Him and in His Church, a vital adherence to Him and His Church with, without devotion to Mary, would be impoverished and compromised.”

Pope John Paul II: " The reading of this book was a decisive turning point in my life. I say ‘turning point,’ but in fact it was a long inner journey … This ‘perfect devotion’ is indispensable to anyone who means to give himself without reserve to Christ and to the work of redemption." “It is from Montfort that I have taken my motto: ‘Totus tuus’ (‘I am all thine’). Someday I’ll have to tell you Montfortians how I discovered De Montfort’s Treatise on True Devotion to Mary, and how often I had to reread it to understand it.”

Vatican II Council: “The maternal duty of Mary toward men in no way obscures or diminishes this unique meditation of Christ, but rather show its power. All her saving influence on men originates not from some inner necessity, but from the divine pleasure. It flows forth from the superabundance of the merits of Christ, rests on His meditation, depends entirely on it and draws all its power from it.” “…the practices and exercises of devotion to her recommended by the Church in the corse of the centuries [are to] be treasured…” (Lumen Gentium: 60. 67).
