The Call of the Virgin Mary Mother of God
Luke 1-26-38

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!” But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there will be no end.” And Mary said to the angel, “How shall this be, since I have no husband?” And the angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. And behold, your kinswoman Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.” And Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Prayer for Deacons

Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior and High Priest, in your love for your people, You assumed human nature in order to teach us and lead us to your heavenly kingdom. In your providential love, You called your servants Stephen to labor in your spiritual vineyard as a deacon and to give his life as a witness to your gospel of sacrificial love. Today, in this time of need for dedicated and hard-working clergy, we seek the prayers and intercession of the Holy Apostle, First Martyr, and Archdeacon Stephen. Knowing his love for You and the Church, we are confident of his heavenly intercession. We pray You, grant the favor of your graces through his intercession. We hope that our diocese/eparchy will benefit from his prayers and will be graced with an increasing number of dedicated deacons after the model of the Holy Martyr Stephen and all the saintly deacons. May our ordained men, especially those in the order of the diaconate, continue to look to Saint Stephen as a model of their sacrifical service. May they love one another, be kind and charitable to the poor and those in need, and be filled with zeal for each soul. You show us the perfect example of service and love, O Christ our God, and we glorify You, always, now and ever and forever. Amen.

The First Luminous Mystery: The Baptism of Jesus

Jesus descended into the waters to be baptized by John. He took up the challenge of His Father. He knew He would suffer on behalf of us and His suffering would lead to the forgiveness of sins. He knew He was king but His Throne was to be a cross.

We pray that our priests will imitate Our Lord’s humility as they do their priestly duties by accepting their challenges from God.

We pray for any CAF members who are thinking of becoming priests or consecrated brothers or sisters

We pray for more vocations.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name! Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen!

The Second Luminous Mystery: The Wedding at Cana

Jesus’ first miracle was made possible by the firm love and faith of Mary in her Divine Son.

Oh Lord, help our priests to develop an ever-increasing love for Mary. Help new priests to recognize that they may find their strength in Mary as they “Do whatever He tells…” them. Mary is our teacher and always leads us to her Son.

We pray for any CAF members who are thinking of becoming priests or consecrated brothers or sisters
