O Divine Love, we come before You to pray and intercede for our priests that they may become the living presence of Your love among us.

O Divine Love, enter and take complete possession of their hearts that all their affections may be toward charity.

O Divine Love, enter and be ever first in their minds that all their thoughts may be charitable.

O Divine Love, enlighten their intellects that they may always discern that which is most charitable.

O Divine Love, imbue all their words that they may always speak that which is most charitable and encouraging.

O Divine Love, inhabit their wills that they may always will and do that which is most charitable.

O Divine Love, animate all their senses and movements that they may only hear and see with Your senses and always respond with Your charity.

O Divine Love, penetrate to the very core of their souls, consume all their darkness, until You, O Divine Love, are able to radiate pure love through them to all they meet.

O Mary, Mother of Divine Love, pray for our priests.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Grant, O Lord,
that every hand laid upon you at the altar
may be a friendly hand,
whose touch is tender and consoling as Joseph’s was;
that the lips which form so many sacred words
may never be profaned by frivolous or unworthy speech;
that priests may guard,
even in the noisy streets of the city,
the impress of their noble functions,
the bright token that they have
but lately come down from your holy mountain;
and in their garments the fragrance of the altar,
that everyone may find them living memorials of you,
accessible to all,
yet more than other men.

Grant that they may contract from the Mass of today
a hunger and thirst for the Mass of the morrow,
that the sacred anticipation be their last thought at night

Praying, especially for one particular priest who saddens me (I’d rather not talk about it please, even in a PM. I prefer to pray for him in the silence of my heart.)
 
PRAYER FOR A PRIEST

O Jesus, our great High Priest,
Hear my humble prayers on behalf of your priest, Father T.
Give him a deep faith,
a bright and firm hope
and a burning love
which will ever increase in the course of his priestly life.

In his loneliness,
comfort him In his sorrows,
strengthen him In his frustrations,
point out to him that it is through suffering that the soul is purified,
and show him that he is needed by the Church,
he is needed by souls,
he is needed for the work of redemption.

O loving Mother Mary,
Mother of Priests,
take to your heart your son
who is close to you because of his priestly ordination,
and because of the power
which he has received to carry on the work of Christ
in a world which needs him so much.

Be his comfort, be his joy, be his strength,
and especially help him to live
and to defend the ideals of consecrated celibacy.

Amen.
 
Prayer of a Priest

Jesus, Shepherd of my soul, live in the soul of Your shepherd:
In the depth of Your humility,
In the breadth of Your charity,
In the length of Your patience,
In the strength of Your courage.
Reign in me whom You have called;
Choose for me what you have chosen:
The last and the least,
The lowest and the poorest,
The worst and the hardest,
The crib and the cross.
Give me this day my daily bread, the grace to do my Father’s will:
With pure intention,
With full attention,
To each duty of love,
At each moment of service.
Grant that my only business in life may be my
Father’s business till death, my only eulogy:
“He was Another Christ.” Amen.

O Almighty Eternal God, look upon the face of Thy Son, and for the love of Him who is the eternal High Priest, have pity on Thy priests. Remember, O most compassionate God, that they are but weak and frail human beings. Stir up in them the grace of their vocation which is in them by the imposition of the bishop’s hands. Keep them close to Thee, lest the enemy prevail against them, so that they may never do anything in the slightest degree unworthy of their sublime vocation.

O Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and earth, we humbly ask you from the depths of our heart to help us in this necessity. There are none who can withstand your power. O show us that you are our Mother.

Lord Jesus, you have chosen your priests from among us and sent them out to proclaim your word and to act in your name. For so great a gift to your Church, we give you praise and thanksgiving. We ask you to fill them with the fire of your love, that their ministry may reveal your presence in the Church. Since they are earthen vessels, we pray that your power shine through their weakness. In their afflictions, let them never be crushed; in their doubts, never despair; in temptation, never be destroyed; in persecution, never abandoned. Inspire them through prayer to live each day the mystery of your dying and rising. In times of weakness send them your Spirit, and help them to praise your heavenly Father and to pray for poor sinners. By the same Holy Spirit, put your word on their lips and your love in their hearts, to bring good news to the poor and healing to the broken-hearted. And may the gift of Mary, your Mother, to the Disciple whom you loved, be your gift to every priest. Grant that she who formed you in her human image, may form them in your divine image, by the power of your Spirit, to the glory of God the Father. Amen.
 
Prayer for a Priestly Heart

Give me, O Lord, an ever watchful heart which no subtle speculation may ever lure from you. Give me a noble heart that no unworthy affection shall ever draw downwards to earth. Give me a heart of honesty that no insincerity shall warp. Give me a heart of courage that no distress shall ever crush or quench. Give me a heart so free that no perverted or impetuous affection shall ever claim it for its own.

Amen.
