I am a 15-year-old using my dad’s screen name and I have a question. My mother and I had a talk on the perpetual virginity of Mary and all I was told was something to the extent of “the Church teaches it, so you have to believe it.” That didn’t solve my problem. I believe I understand the Church’s position on the issue but I can’t seem to find an answer for a nagging question. Why is this so vital to my faith in Trinity? Because if I’m not mistaken the Trinity is the basis for faith and I don’t see how the belief in the perpetual virginity of Mary is important to that faith. I am unconvinced on this issue one way or the other. Can you explain why perpetual virginity is so vital for me please? Thank you.
