I know this may seem like a silly question, but I have been wondering about perseverance and how that fits into your life and God’s will.

Every day I ask my self “what am I doing wrong?” I can’t seem to figure out why I can’t seem to get the change I desire in my life. Then I wonder am I trying too hard in the wrong things?

One life lesson that I have learned is to try and try again. A quote I read once “Persevering is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th time” and another one says something about so many failings that people have and they never realize how close they were to succeeding… or something like that

At work I push and push - while I realize many people don’t realize that I try something 50 times before I get it right and its not like I am climbing the company ladder - - but I do believe it helps me to keep my job. Its like the powers that be know that I will “get it done” even if they don’t understand what I am doing 🙂

I sometimes wonder if I am pushing doors open that God may have wanted to stay closed for me… Does that make sense?

Then sometimes when I wonder if should do something or not - - then I know perseverance pays off, but is that what I should do??

has anyone else wondered such a thing?

I’m glad that you’re doing your best at work. If only we all had such effort! 😉

Divine Providence refers to God’s will acting in the world. Remember, God does not micromanage everything and everyone’s actions (we do have free will) like some believe. Yes, His will is acting in the world, guiding you to truth in the Spirit often, but you wouldn’t be able to do anything God wouldn’t “allow” you to.

If you’re not breaking God’s law or are otherwise not doing something wrong, we generally shouldn’t have to worry about these things. Enjoy life, God bless.

Do you know of a priest you trust enough to discuss this with? There’s so many factors at play here, it would be very useful to get some help in your discernment of God’s will for your life.

Perseverance is a good thing … as long as we are doing it for good … to do a good job is doing it for good … I wish I had more perseverance … it’s a good quality to have.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I have talked to a couple of priests - and it has been a little while since I have - but as the responses that I received here show - its not a simple, clear cut thing. Between myself not being able to express clearly what I feel and other people not understanding its a challenge to gather (name removed by moderator)ut. 😊

I know good from bad and right from wrong - I am not dealing with those types of issues. I often wonder if its a priority type thing that I am dealing with. You know what’s important to you is how your life goes…

I didn’t mean to say I was doing well at my job - I am keeping my job - but its a very stressful, soul draining job and I feel stuck there. BUT that is not my biggest problem that was just an example

Perhaps another example… I love to sew. I spend a lot of time and money sewing. I do complete everything that I finish. I challenge myself to try new things… but is that what I should be spending my time and money on?? Am I “hiding” from the life God wants for me by keeping busy like that?

Should I be putting more money in my retirement, should I be volunteering more at my church, should I be going to the adoration chapel more?
