…I know of several persian Saints like St. Anastasius and St. Schirin or St Cyra, but are there any persian style paintings or icons of them?
Maybe someone has an idea. I didn´t found much beside the traditional greek or russian depicton, but sometimes It´s nice to see some of our beloved Saints depicted in one´s native tradition, especially when it´s a rather non-christian culture. 🙂

From my understanding, there are generally four different kinds of art styles for iconography: Greek, Russian, Arabic, and Coptic.

This website has a nice little write-up and has some examples contrasting St. George in the four different styles. The URL is a bit wonky, so I had to dig up a cached link to the article I’m trying to point to.

In general, I’d expect the Copts to be centered more in Egypt, and the Arabs to be centered more in… Arabic countries. Persians, of course, are different from Arabs.

So from what I’m seeing, it looks like Persian Christian art is more closely related to their indiginous miniature art, rather than any school of Christian iconography that we would think of.

First of all, sorry for my late response, I´m happy for your answers 🙂
@midori I like those depictions, it´s the classical persian miniature school. The second image should be islamic and depicts rather mohammed in my opinion (the flames behind his head are typical iconography for him in islamic art) and the mother with the child could also be the martyr hossein with his mother, they are depicted as saints in the shia denomination in islamic arts. Sadly the website ends in error 404 on my laptop, but the picture of mary is already in my pictures I love collection, thank you for this ❤️

Cool beans! I didn’t think Mohammed was ever depicted in imagery with a face— I’ve learned something new today!

iYou are right, n many depictions his face is veiled or left unpainted on the painting, but especially persian miniature art depicts almost everything 😃 I´ve seen whole mythological scenes woven on safavid caftans, too…
