The issues surrounding addictions can be more difficult, remember they have been built up to their current levels over time & short of hitting that “jackpot prayer” it will take time to step away from them as well. AA, NA, & other support structures are fine means but that sinner must 1st get there.
God has heard my prayers & my somewhat less than perfect confessions ( at least in some folks minds and probably by the written Rule as well). But he heard & slowly, Lovingly, Mercifully, He brought me out from that particular sin. As I did more to walk towards Him, to be nearer to Him, He reached out to me as well. He drew nigh. Day by Day, Week by Week, Things improved, I Improved (Thank You Jesus!). Today is a much different Day than all those Yesterday’s, & by the Grace of God, Tomorrow will be an even better day.
Most of us miserable sinners when we go to Confession (just that Act of walking in the Church) speaks volumes about us & our intent. We have realized we are wrong and that we need help. God hears those prayers & answers them of that I am convinced. For that I will be eternally grateful.
