Well we met with our lawyer today. All we have left to do is sign some forms that he is going to email us and then send them back to him. He says we’ll have a brief meeting at the court house (not before a judge though) where they’ll asks us some questions and we’re done. Debt free! Yahoo!

I too have not just blown of my debt. I have been paying these cards off for years and have not used a credit card in three years but was making no headway and the stress was just awful.

On another good note a friend from our old parish that works for my health insurance company has been assisting us in clearing up some outstanding bills from Mayo clinic that my insurance should have covered. We’ve been going in circles with this problem for a couple years. He said it should be cleared up in a couple weeks. Yeah! Then I can finally schedule my appointment that I’m long over due for at Mayo.

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted of my shoulders. And that God has blessed us with a second chance.

God is good!

Yay! I am so happy for you and especially glad you can get to Mayo now.

Medical bills are among the top reasons people file bankruptcy.

We are having a really tough year ourselves. Our patients aren’t paying us either. I do everything I can before I have to send people to collection, but this is our livelihood.

I’m one of those not being paid, and not able to pay my bills. It’s a vicious circle. 😦

Good to hear Rayne. If your lawyer didn’t tell you, you need to stop using your credit cards today because if you use them after you met with him that can mess up your case.

Good luck

Oh we stopped using our credit cards 3 years ago. We went to our hearing in November, everything went fine. It’s such a relief to not have the huge debt over our heads. Now we’re using a budget and following our spending very closely.

Thanks everyone!

I agree…I am anti globalization caus fairness doesnt exist. NAFTA, CAFTA, GATT…have done nothing but kill Americas poor and middle class who were the backbone and done nothing but enrich the already greedy and wealthy.
Why is it that wealth always equals greed in a lot of people’s minds? It can mean just darn hard work or initiative has been undertaken - without exploiting others in the process…

I thought they we trying to scare me. I love credit collection people.
If you have proof of their scare tactics, you can actually sue the debt collection people. There is an interesting web site artofcredit.com that has some interesting stuff about debt collectors, bankruptcy, credit card debt, and stuff like it. I don’t know that I would take advice from people on that board because it is definitely not Catholic or anywhere close but you might be able to read through some of the forums to get links to information that might be of help to you.

Didn’t the bankrupcty laws recently change so that it is more difficult to file chapter 7?
