Personal care boarding home, what to do about the cats? URGENT

My son has suffered a heroine addiction. He went to rehab, then to jail, then back to rehab, then to a residence where he can stay for a year. He has transferred to another residence because he didn’t like the restrictions at the first one. Now he is talking about going to an apartment. Your prayers for him to accept authority and to continue healing from his heroine addiction would be awesome.

In the mean time I may be going to a personal care boarding home, and here at my parents’ home, where he lived out his heroine addiction, I am taking care of his cats. Briefly, I don’t know what to do if they take me back at the boarding home because his cats were abandoned here for a year, they only saw my mother for a few minutes a day, and they would go back to that, or, worse still, my son would return here and would also almost certainly return to his addiction.

Although we’re not supposed to give advice on the prayer forums, as a cat rescuer myself I have to say that I don’t think somebody fighting addiction is in the best place to be also caring for cats. I would suggest that you call some no-kill shelters in your area and see if they would be able to take the cats and place them in good homes. Please make sure the shelters are no-kill; most of the county pounds and shelters aren’t, and regularly put a lot of healthy animals to death. You might try calling the SPCA to see if they can suggest a place that would take them.

DO NOT put them on Craigslist or in any other “free to good home” ad, as people take animals pretending they are taking them for pets and then use them as pit bull bait animals to be killed by the dogs.

Also if there are any people you know very well and know would give the cats a good home (but only if you know them very well) you might ask if they could take the cats.

Prayer for a Miracle

God of all creation, you who spoke a simple command and brought forth light from
the darkness, I ask you now to send forth your miracle-working power to heal (cloudsurfer’s Son). You cleansed the lepers, opened the eyes of the blind and by
speaking a simple command, you empowered the crippled to rise up and walk.
You sent forth your life-giving power to all those in need, including those you raised from
the dead. I ask you to send forth your healing power into cloudsurfer’s Son’s body and give him the strength to fight his illness. I ask this through my Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
