Personal life with Jesus

The catholic church has always been very intellectual and deep…I have always loved the liturgy and the Eucharist in the Mass…not always understaning it, though…I am mystified and challanged … when I read Frank Sheed’s books…particularly, “Theology and Sanity.”., “What Difference Does Jesus Make.” and “The Action of the Holy Spirit.” I’ve also read, “Beginning Apologetics” series by Fr. Frank Chacon and Jim Burnham.

Here is the problem…my faith wavers and doubt creeps in when I’m around non-beliivers or agnostics…they are in my family…in fact, my husband made the comment the other day…“that if there really was a God, why doesn’t he send Jesus back now when we really need him.” WHen I try to explain the right stuff in my head it doesn’t come across very good…at least, I don’t think so…I love the Catholic Religion, but sometimes I think I have missed a very simple, personal relationship with Jesus…which I don’t think the Church nurtured in me…I have found myself looking at Christian, non-denominational churches that carry that personal Christ message…I’m thinking maybe my husband would grasp the message easier, also, if he were to hear the word and simple applicationtions to life delivered “Christlike simple.”
from other Christian groups…I think both my husband and I never had the “Jesus relationship” first as catholic children…all we had were the church rules, etc…Is there anyone out there that understands what I’m trying to get across…thanks…

I will be praying for you. I am sorry but I have not been through what you are explaining, my relationship has increased with Jesus because of my Catholic faith, particularly the Eucharist and I could never leave the church Jesus founded for one founded by man, nor could I ever leave the Eucharist. I can understand this
I heard somewhere that we should nurture our faith and I think therefore that it would be good to separate that which is necessary for faith, that which is beneficial and that which is simply getting in the way.

I take it your a catholic so one thing I would point out is that from a Catholic standpoint, the Eucharist and Church IS something that is necessary and therefore you should not leave. Also since you do ardently believe in the R.C.C think what benefit going to non-catholic groups would bring?

It may perhaps sow confusion and doubt which will not be beneficial for your faith.

Is there no group within the catholic church that fosters a personal relationship with Jesus - a youth group, prayer group, etc

You shouldn’t have to change your faith and worship for others

For a personal life with Jesus you need to know Him. Knowing in the Biblical sense is a deep personal intimate relationship. The Greek word “Ginosko” and Hebrew word “Yada” are used. Jesus gave this relationship to His Church (The Body of Christ) through the Sacraments. Remember, in Holy Scripture, the disciples eyes were opened and they “know” Him in the Breaking of the Bread.

The Road to Emmaus: “And it came to pass, whilst he was at table with them, he took bread, and blessed, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him: and he vanished out of their sight. And they said one to the other: Was not our heart burning within us, whilst he spoke in this way, and opened to us the scriptures?” Luke 24:30-31

You can find a spiritual relationship with Jesus outside the Catholic Church, but you won’t have the deep personal Sacramental relationship Jesus Christ intends you to have within the Body of Christ, His Church.

“Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you.” John 6: 54

“The chalice of benediction, which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? And the bread, which we break, is it not the partaking of the body of the Lord?” 1Cor: 16

For we, being many, are one bread, one body, all that partake of one bread. I Corinthians 10:17

Talk to Jesus. Tell Him that you love Him and want to learn to love Him even more. He will help you. Learn all you can about Him as you would someone you are absolutely in Love with. Learn about His Church and how He left His Sacraments to give us His Body His Life giving graces and prepare His Church (us) to be His Bride. This is a very personal and communal relationship.
