Predictions of personality of people based on their zodiac signs are clearly to be rejected, as asserted in CCC 2116. On the internet these days there are predictions of personality based on blood types. This seems to originate from East Asian countries:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_type_personality_theory
Is this scientific, or just another form of divination to be rejected? Are there any church documents, or quotes by saints or church ministers, which addresses this? Thank you.

I do not know if it is against Church teaching, but it seems to be really pseudo-scientific, emphasis on the “pseudo” part. On the surface of it, it sounds to be an extension of the Ancient Greek notion, incorporated by Hippocrates into medicine, that people’s personalities are the product of one of four humors (black bile, yellow bile, phlegm, and blood) which translate into one of four temperaments or personality types (melancholic, choleric, phlegmatic, or sanguine). There were other primitive personality theories as well, such as phrenology, which claimed that the bumps on the skull are a good predictor of personality type. Even personality type theories are largely old-fashioned today. Much more preferable are trait theories and social cognitive theories of personality, not to mention theories based on neuroscience.

I always found the personality things to be very laughable. I would say, if you can base someone’s personality on their blood type then shouldn’t we have many many more blood types?

Whether it’s blood type, astrology, handwriting, or whatever, they tell you what you want. If you compare the “analysis” of different personality “tests,” you’ll find they sound very similar.

Personality, if you have one, is nurture, not nature! 🙂
There is a personality, but it is highly overrated.

Personality is no more nor less than the surface of our mind or psyche that others see, and it changes all the time. You can know no more about someone from their personality than from their skin.

doesn’t really matter anyways. it’s quite illogical to except that 1/4 of the world’s population all have basically the same personality. or 1/12, or which ever system people try and use

Each human being is unique, made in the image and likeness of God but everyone is different. that’s pretty much all there is to it

Circulation of the blood was discovered in the early 17th c, but blood transfusions didn’t really start to be a real thing until the 1860’s. Karl Landsteiner didn’t identify blood types until 1900-- the question was, “Why do blood transfusions sometimes work, and sometimes not?” The Nobel Prize wasn’t awarded for this work until 1930.

Associating blood types with personality types didn’t come about until 1927, and was created by Takeji Furukawa, a professor at the Tokyo Women’s Teacher’s School. It’s not like you had Sei Shonagon discoursing about AB-types in the ancient Heian courts. 🙂 But while I would have expected it to date back to, say, postwar Japan, it’s still less than 100 years old.

How about personality based on skin pigment?

It’s ridiculous.

The whole concept is ridiculous. I took a look at a few websites that describe the personality of blood types and mine did not fit at all.

Not exactly. Those who study personality–that is, personality psychologists–have found that personality does NOT change all the time. In fact, the core personality remains rather stable over time despite tragic events or good fortune in people’s lives. It does change somewhat, however, across different social situations at the same time, so that personality does not have global consistency or commonality in every situation, but rather what is called local consistency, which means commonality in similar situations.

There are also several theoretical approaches to studying personality: type theories, trait theories, cognitive theories, social cognitive theories, humanistic theories, and most recently biological theories of personality based on the cutting-edge research of neuroscience.

The study of personality is a whole complicated science within the field of psychology. It is not a superficial study except as portrayed in pop psychology books and articles.

It is completely ridiculous.
