Personalizing the Rosary: Question

Hey, everyone.

Recently I’ve been thinking that it might be nice to have a sort of personalized Rosary format, in addition to the traditional one, which I’ve heard is acceptable.

One of the things that I’ve wondered about is this: Where are the perameters? I know Hail Marys and Our Fathers, the Apostles’ Creed, etc., all need to be retained, though they can be reorganized and the amount of recitation given to each one changed. But what about the Glory Be, Fatima Prayer, etc.? Also, how do you keep the Rosary the *Rosary, *without changing it into an entirely new devotion (not that this is necessarily bad)?

Well, if you want to gain an indulgence for saying the Rosary, or say it in public, you must retain the basic format (although you can put additional or different prayers in between decades and at the end).

And I’d say unless it retains the basic Our Father - 10 Hail Marys - 1 Glory Be format for the decades it really does become a new sort of chaplet (like you said, there’s nothing wrong with that at all!). Not so sure about the beginning prayers or the Hail Holy Queen at the end.

Well, there are many other accepted rosaries and chaplets that you might investigate.

Wow you are a ‘deep’ thinker! LOL… Now you have me thinking… I often have said the traditional Rosary and then laid in bed at night and said different things on the 10 beads… like “Jesus and Mary I Love You save souls.” Is that what you mean?

My sister adds different devotions to her Rosary… like between decades she adds the prayer to St. Michael.

I can’t imagine more prayer could ever be bad…

Perhaps I am speaking of an entirely different devotion. But you’re right: That’s not bad. Ah, well.

I am not familiar with making our own Rosary. But, to my thinking, if it is “Rosary”, it has to keep all its parts to be called “Rosary” - Creed, Lord’s Prayer, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Fatima Prayer, Hail Holy Queen, all have to be kept. Without the complete structure of Rosary, it is not Rosary any more.

The only things I can think of being altared are the mysteries. Instead of the traditional joyful, sorrowful, luminous, glorious, we may replace the five mysteries with our own choice of Bible passages. For example, pray for healing, we may replace the mysteries with different healings in the Gospel - healing of the lepers, healing of the blind man, healing of the paralyzed, healing of the woman with blood issue, resurrection of Lazarus, etc…

That’s just my own thinking though.
