Brendan Francis Aidan Behan , 1923 – 1964) was an Irish poet, short story writer, novelist and playwright who wrote in both English and Irish. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest Irish writers of all time.
“It’s not that the Irish are cynical. It’s rather that they have a wonderful lack of respect for everything and everybody.”
“I only drink on two occasions—when I’m thirsty and when I’m not.”
“I have never seen a situation so dismal that a policeman couldn’t make it worse.”
“I respect kindness in human beings first of all, and kindness to animals. I don’t respect the law; I have a total irreverence for anything connected with society except that which makes the roads safer, the beer stronger, the food cheaper and the old men and old women warmer in the winter and happier in the summer.”
"If there were only three Irishmen left in the world you’d find two of them in a corner gossiping about the other."
"When I’m in good health I’m not at all religious. But when I’m sick I become very devout."
“Every man, through fear, mugs his aspirations a dozen times a day.”
