Peyton Williams Manning (born March 24, 1976) is an American former professional football quarterback who played in the NFL for 18 seasons. Considered one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, he spent 14 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, and his final four with the Denver Broncos. He played college football for the University of Tennessee, leading them to the 1997 SEC Championship Game in his senior season. He is the second son of Hall of Fame quarterback Archie Manning and older brother of retired NFL quarterback Eli Manning. Peyton was selected by the Colts as the first overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft. From 1998 to 2010, he improved the fortunes of the struggling Colts franchise and helped transform them into consistent playoff contenders. During his tenure as starting quarterback, Manning led the team to eight division championships, two AFC championships, and one Super Bowl title. With Denver he went to two more Super Bowls, winning one. He retired following the 2015 season.
"The finger lick is just a really bad habit – I do it all the time. My wife Ashley is going to kill me if I do it at dinner one more time. I look like an animal about to dig in."
"When you go through a significant injury and have a major career change, you truly do go one year at a time, and you don’t look past what’s going on now, because you are not sure what’s going to happen. Tomorrow is not promised."
"I have to leave the games now if the announcer says something I don’t agree with. I’m thinking, ‘Peyton, it is not healthy to be so worked up before a game.’ "
"You hear about how many fourth-quarter-comebacks that a guy has and I think it means he must have really screwed up in the first three quarters."
"I think of myself as retiring as a football player from the University of Tennessee, but I also played for the Colts and the Broncos. I was very lucky to have played for all of them."
"I’ll even miss the Patriots fans in Foxborough, and they should miss me. They sure did get a lot of wins off of me."
"Don’t ever think, no matter how old you are, that you no longer need to be coached."
