For example, the source that gives us that statistic counts the Latin Rite Catholic Church separately for each separate country—giving us 242 Roman Catholic Churches (not to mention all the Eastern rites). That editorial choice means the number is greatly inflated from what we would generally speak of in terms of separate denominations.
