I totally agree with using masculine pronouns for God. I can’t stand it when they don’t. I always say 'for us* men*. Of course, if feminists really want to change God to a female, they might as well do Satan as well. You know: Mother of Evil, Princess of Darkness, Great Whore of Babylon… Of course this discussion could go into distasteful music during Mass… 😉

“With God as our Father, We are family.”

I hate it when they do that.

I think it is the height of arrogance to change a writer’s work and that goes double for hymns and especially for the revealed Word of God in scripture. Hymn lyrics are intellectual property, even when in the public domain, and no one has the right to change them.
AMEN!!! I fully agree!!! (with intellectual property in general as well as with hymns!)

Blessings,

How about:

All glory laud and honor to you Redeemer King

instead of the correct way:

All glory laud and honor to THEE Redeemer King.

Oh, and I thought of an expression in common use that is NOT “inclusive language”:

When speaking with a group of people, or about a group of people, do you ever refer to that group as guys, even if the group is all female?:hmmm: 😃 Something to think about.

In closing, I am a woman, and I don’t like “inclusive” language.:crying:

Ummm…why is one of those more correct than the other?

Because

All glory laud and honor to THEE Redeemer King

is the original wording.

And I like the use of such “archaic” words as “thee” and “thou”. They sound more reverent and formal.🙂

Is gender neutrality the reason they got rid of the Feast of the Circumcision?

But getting back to hymns, the word “wretch” has been removed from some versions of “Amazing Grace”.

I don’t like it when Catholics sing “Amazing Grace”, even if it is the “correct” wording.

Amazing Grace is not theologically correct. It speaks of being already saved. I think that Catholicism teaches that we are only fully “saved” when we get to Heaven(or maybe Purgatory, for those who need a stop on the way to Heaven).

Yes, I do that quite often. I’m using “guys” in the generic, inclusive sense.

Actually, when understood correctly, Amazing Grace is also theologically correct. It is Biblical and Catholic to believe we have been saved, yet are still being saved, and will be saved.

Even “the hour I first believed” when seen through Catholic glasses, is true, because it’s grace that moves us to belief, although it’s an actual grace, not sanctifying which comes during Baptism.

Princess of Darkness heh heh. Just doesn’t have the same ring to it. Sounds more like a Las Vegas nightclub.
