Peter in Antioch

Peter was also in Jerusalem and the Galilee.

What is not important is where he was.

What is important is where the authority was passed. He died in Rome and Linus took up his authority and the Keys to the Kingdom for the next 9 years.

This was also tingling me, but I have an answer…Peter was matyred in Rome and not int Antioch, and we know matyrdom is different, than other things.

The authority lies with the person not wherever they happen to be temporarily. Peter’s authority went with him to Rome. As he was still alive when he left Antioch, his authority did not pass on to any bishop there. When Peter died in Rome, his successor, Linus, received his authority (the Keys to the Kingdom).

Antioch is an Apostolic See since Peter was there but Rome is where he was martyred.

Martyrdoms were very important to the early Church. Rome saw the martyrdoms of both Peter and Paul. It was also the administrative and business centre of the Roman world, and the city with the largest population in the Mediterranean area.

Antioch’s claim to fame was being the city in which believers were first called ‘Christians’, and being one of the early centres of Christian activity. Like Jerusalem, it was eclipsed quite early on by Rome and Alexandria, and then Constantinople.
