My “letter to the editor”:
Father Peter Kennedy is completely off the wall.
Look at him sitting there, on the steps of that gorgeous altar, with his back to the very Presence of God Himself, present in the Holy Sacrament of the altar, patting his dog, as if he’s sitting on the steps to his verandah.
Castigate him. He’s not a Catholic. And he shouldn’t be commandeering the church (building) that was built with the pennies of the poor from long ago - the poor who believed in Christ and His One, True, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.

So basically, he has created his own faith, but feels it is his right to appropriate the facilities and reputation of the Catholic Church to legitimze his teachings.

Nice. The term “Intellectual dishonesty” needs a picture of this guy next to it as a definition.

His following is quite strong. 5 years ago, I knew someone who’s family was involved. Its almost cultish. He teaches them from the pulpit, to completely ignore all the Catholic teachings: real Presence, contraception, to mention but a few. And they will not listen to the truth.

I thank the good God above that I was lucky enough to walk away.

if Peter Kennedy vows to not go quietly, I’m sure that the Catholic Men of the Diocese can make plenty of noise as they 'boot"him to the curb, can’t they? What’s stopping the Bishop from doing so himself?

The bishop most probably doesn’t wish to see any souls lost and also he wouldn’t want to make Kennedy more of a victim and the media’s darling.

Kennedy said that he was going to relocate to the local Trades Hall but he has apparently changed his mind. Although the parish has signed a ‘treaty’ with some aboriginals saying that the land the church stands on belongs to them I don’t think that will stand up in court. I think that the law will say that the land and the church belong to the archdiocese.

But the Archbishop of Brisbane has already appointed someone to take over and is going to suspend Kennedy, short of a recanting, in two weeks. So isn’t this letter kind of like asking a farmer to shoot a horse that’s already dead?

And what does the Courier Mail, a secular newspaper, really have to do with anything anyway?

The editors, journalists and readers, for the most part, aren’t Catholic, and probably not even Christian. Most of them won’t understand your subtle point about the Eucharist being God Himself, or the Church His house. Most of those who DO understand will just dismiss it as a quaintly archaic but unimportant belief in the manner that we would dismiss someone telling us about the desecration of a Hindu shrine or something.

The Courier Mail and its readers have no reason to give two hoots who is in the right in this argument. They’re just reporting it because its an argument.

Nor does a secular newspaper have any reason or authority to tell Kennedy or the Archbishop what to do. It simply isn’t the jurisdiction of the editor or a reporter in a secular newspaper.

I would sorta enjoy being one of the parishioners who wanted him out – one of those who tossed him and his cronies out and changed the locks long before the cops arrived.

What you guys don’t undestand is that St Marys is a truly progressive and therefore right thinking parish, excuse me, my bad, faith community. Why, they are on the cutting edge of modern Catholic thought.👍

They are socially active, truly sorry for the past sins of the Church, not afraid to challenge old antiquated beliefs like the divinity of Christ, the virginity of the Blessed Mother, the Real Presence and the Holy Trinity and see no reason not to incorporate any and all other religions into their worship services. Truly progressive indeed:extrahappy: .

I think we should all fall in behind this truly modern and progressive parish, excuse me, my bad, faith community and give them our full support. Kennedy, far from being what the press is painting him out to be is a saint.

To not do so would be, well, uncharitable and maybe even mean spirited:eek:

There should be plenty of room to get in line. I believe that it is a broad path they travel. 😃

I never understand this nonsense. If he refuses to accept the divinity of Jesus, the Virgin Birth, Papal Authority, etc… why is he still claiming to be Catholic? Being Catholic means agreeing with all the Doctrine that is Catholic.

The Bishop has a duty to remove him from the priesthood regardless so that the desecration in the Church can at least stop. Perhaps it is too late to help the parishioner’s he has harmed, but at least make it so that he can no longer administer the Eucharist. It is pretty obvious from the picture that there is no respect for Christ at all.

Let us pray for this mans soul.Prayer and fasting will bring him and his followers to their senses. Kyrie Eleison.

He ought to be excommunicated. This reminds me of that Episcopal pastor Spong. I mean, how can you claim to be a Christian if you deny the divinity of Christ!?
