So were does your contention come from.
From the post reformation step children on this forum…including you, since there is more than ample evidence in both the New Testament and Christian history that St. Peter did indeed fulfill the role of Pope as we know it to day.
He pronounced the first excommunication. (With double deadly effect) and the rest of the evidence has already been cited to refute your teachings,
Yea are carnal and are seeking to justify your ideas from a carnal mindset.
Based on what i just pointed out I’d say you just shot yourself in the foot Joe.
Paul said it best are you of Paul or of Peter or Mark. They are only fellow ministers of Christ. Did you notice that Paul layed the foundation you know he is the apostle to the gentiles. But then he clarified that in the end stating that Jesus Christ is the foundation that he has build upon.
And nothing has changed within Christ’s church, but those outside of His church, who refuse to listen will be dealt with by the Holy Spirit. Again…based on my first paragraph. It won’t be the faithful Catholics.
Paul is speaking to people in his authority which is in Christ. So why did he give this word. People were doing the same as you are doing they were seeking to justify there carnal view of things and not seeking the spiritual wisdom of the age.
As effective indictment on post reformation non-Catholic Christianity as I’ve ever seen.
To live by the letter of the law is death, we are not of the law but of Grace.
This would be relevant if we did, but…
When you look at all the many churchs of this world what you are seeing are people who are under grace.
Right up until someone from outside the Catholic faith comes along and laws the law on them again with unbiblical rules like Sola Scriptura, Sola Fide, OSAS, Calvinism, the Rapture & the gazillion other errors that have trickled down from the reformers.
But for the most part they are not.
"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. " (Proverbs 3:5) “For the most part” you say? I can’t tell…
In Judgeing these people do you not sin, Is not God alone judge. Even the prophets of old knew this.
Nope…we’d have to be judging them for that to be the case and since all we are doing is examining and discerning their errors, we are in fact carrying out the spiritual gifts and responsibilities commissioned to us in the New Testament. (1st Corinthians 2:15) “The spiritual man judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one.” The actual Greek there is better translated “discerns”, the difference being that this is more detective work than the function of a judge who goes the additional step in passing sentence.
I can take the bible and make it mean so many differnet things, yeat i do not.
If you say so, but we certainly can’t tell. So many voices telling us that they all have the truth and that it’s all based on the Word of God and quoting verse and chapter in support, yet neither in agreement with each other nor with the early church’s own writings.

Sorry…not interested…but thanks for sharing.
Paul makes it clear in this passage that not one apostle is over another, that they are co-labors and they are only ministers.
Sermon point not in agreement with the Word of God…as has been shown to you many times on this wearisome thread.
That God gives the increase that he Christ is the foundaton that all are build upon.
And not one thing that Catholics believe contradicts that…though you sit there trying to convince us that we should take your word over the Word of God and the Church. Not likely…
So when you say peter is the rock. That goes directly against sctipture as taught by a apostle of God.
Statement in direct conflict with Matthew 16:18-19, and John 21:15-17 and several more…
(Con’t’d)

The context of Galatians shows that Paul regarded Peter of such a great authority it is hard to imagine Paul literally rebuking Peter. Galatians 1:18; 2:1-2
Paul did correct Peter. Paul with stood Peter and challanged him on a error of his conduct and teaching. Concerning the law of Mosus and living as Jews. So much for papal authority peter was not with out error. So he was corrected by God thru a apostle, who else would God use.
This has been pointed out to you and others in the course of this thread. The fact that Paul corrected Peter on one thing does not indicted Peter’s appointment by Christ Himself as the chief apostle. Your assertion makes more of this than is even implied in the Word of God. In fact to accept your premise would require some serious theological and logical gymnastics that I’m not willing to undertake. Especially since the final destination is error…
All apostle have the same authority.
If you say so…but to no one else did Our Lord give the commission to “feed my lambs” and “feed my sheep”. So again, the Word of God itself refutes your error.
Peter was trying to lay a on the foundation of christ with a wrong teaching. The reason i point this out is that it flies in the face of all the teaching of the catholic chruch does it not.
No…it does not. Peter’s behavior gave scandal but his teaching was never in error and it was not a doctrinal error that Paul corrected him on.

In fact…let me just point something out to you here. If that circumstance indicts Peter’s commission as earthly leader of the church, then I submit that compared to Peter there is not one n-C leader around that can stand in Peter’s shadow, and therefore…with this premise, you actually indict the majority of n-C church leadership, such as they are.
Now how can i say that, i have scripture to back it up. That is why Sola Scriptura is so important.
Ah…as I said, all the errors trickle down from the error of Sola Scriptura. This is off topic and has been refuted any many times so I will not deal with it, but all reading this will note the clear connection of errors and their source.
Sola Scriptura…
I will assure you that God is working greatly in these chruchs you are denouncing.
Denouncing? No. Discerning and discussing the errors of them…yes indeed. You have no proof that God is working any more mightily in any other church than he is within our most holy faith, and I will not stoop to boasting of the things that Our Lord is doing here where I am except to simply say. Our God is an awesome God!
People are gettign saved every day outside the catholic church.
Another off topic statement and one without substantive proof. Especially as no one can assert that they factually know the eternal end of another human being since we cannot know another’s heart.
People are getting healed also all over the world and again it is outside the instituation of the catholic church.
Same as above…off topic and without merit since you have no idea how many are being healed within the Catholic Church, or even outside of your own little church wherever and whatever it may be.
So if people are being saved blessed and healed and it is taking place outside the catholic church it should reall make you think what is going on.
Why? Propaganda and rhetoric is just more clashing cymbals and noisy gongs…
Could it be they have had a encounter with Christ the same as paul did. Paul was changed so is every one who mets Christ.
 More off topic rhetorical preaching. BTW…St. Paul did not come to Christ through study of the scriptures…he came to Christ from the goad that he was kicking against.
So does God give us the scriptures as a pretty book or is he expecting you to read it and get wisdom from it. You know you are going to be judged on it. Study to show yourself approved.
Just more preaching…and not biblically based either since there is no passage anywhere in the Word of God that says that we will be judged based on the Bible. Matthew 25:31-46 is a very clear example. I really don’t think you should attempt to preach Joe…
Code:
And you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hades will not overcome it." not that peter is called a rock does not really mean anything.
1 Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Seems like we all are stones. And we all build on the foundation which is Christ. So peter is but another apostle.
Finally back almost to topic? You discount commissions and words from the very mouth of the Lord Himself, then twist this passage from St. Peter’s epistle to try to make a case without substance to begin with?

Like I said Joe…I wouldn’t try to preach if I were you.

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

Peter as in “Rock” was not used as a man’s name before Jesus renames Simon to Kepha [or Cephas or Peter depending on the translation] In Hebrew texts God is at times refered to as a Rock, as in Psalm 18 where the Lord is called ‘my rock’

However, there are references to a rock in Isaiah [where we also see references to the position [and office] of Prime Minister!]
Harken to me you that follow after ritiousness, you who seek the Lord; look unto the rock [whnecec] you are hewn…Look unto Abraham…’
Abraham [whose name was changed!] is the rock of Isaiah 51.

Another whose name is changed is Jacob, whose name becomes Israel the ‘foundation’ of the 12 tribes. The foundation of the chosen people of God.

It is significant that of all the apostles only Peter has his name changed and in every case where God changes a name, a position of importance in salvation history followed.
