I have been working on next Sunday’s Mass Readings (June 29, 2008), and it covers the highly debated passage among Catholics and Protestants. I have completed it, and I have provided commentary from the Early Church Fathers. I began verses 18-19 with what the Cathechism of the Catholic Church says, and then followed it up with the Early Church Fathers. Here is the link litteralchristianlibrary.wetpaint.com/page/Matt.+16

I did not design it to be a full scale apologetic defense of the Papacy, but it is what I strongly believe to be a solid Catholic Commentary of Matthew 16:18-19.

17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

Jona in Hebrew and Greek means “dove” (representing the Spirit)
Simon (Simeon) means “hear and obey”.

He who "heard and obeyed the Son of the Spirit (Christ) was called “Stone”

In the OT, all the prominent stones are shadows of Christ. The one struck for water, the one with the cleft, the one Jacob laid his head upon, etc.

In the shadows those who 'hear and obey ’ Christ are frequently symbolized by multiple stones, such as piles of rocks down by the water, etc. And may prefigure that we would be called Christians.

Just some musings.
