Jesus talking to Peter directly: “you are the rock and upon this rock I will build MY church”
Jim, this is exactly what I am talking about. The ACTUAL words in scripture ARE:
17Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
(You guys always forget about verse 17.) This passage can literally only mean 4 things:
Since Christ tells us - all fall short of the glory of God in Romans 3:23 - it would make no sense for Christ to build His church on Peter - point 2.
One would then reasonable deduct that it is point 1 or 3.
Point 3 is makes direct reference to Ephesians 2: 19-20
19Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, 20built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone
So here, the bible is literally telling us what the “rock” is…
I was sent this as a email from someone trying very hard to talk me out of believing all things Catholic.

- Christ is building His church on Peter
- Christ is building His church on Himself
- Christ is building His church on an actual rock
