https://www.crossroadsinitiative.com/pics/Pope_John_Paul_II_Crucifix.jpgDear Friends,

**They stood half a million strong in St. Peter’s Square and chanted “Magnus, Magnus, Magnus.” Translation: “Great, Great, Great.” They were calling for our dearly departed John Paul II to be named “The Great.” Only two previous Popes have been given that title; Leo the Great (d. 461), and Gregory the Great (d. 604). There hasn’t been another one in 1400 years. **

Until now!

The title “Great” is not given by the Church. It is not given by the College of Cardinals. It is given by the people, by public acclamation and popular use. It is given by you and me.

Most of us will never have the opportunity to make our wishes on this known. But now you can…

I now direct you to where your voice can be heard. Go to www.c-fam.org/cgi-bin/jpthegreat.pl and sign the petition calling for John Paul II to be universally acclaimed John Paul the Great.

Your name, along with millions of others, will be delivered directly to office of our new Pope Benedict XVI. The names will also be delivered to the Vatican press corps, the press in the United States and around the world.

**Let your voice be heard: “Great, Great, Great, John Paul the Great” **

Go to www.c-fam.org/cgi-bin/jpthegreat.pl right now and sign the petition.

And, this is very important, right now send this note to your family and friends. Send this around the world. Let this take on a life of its own.

Let millions sign!

Very best,

Austin Ruse

President

C-FAM

PS Our non-Catholic brothers and sisters are warmly invited to sign the petition, too. Whether you are Evangelical, Mormon, Muslim, Jewish, all are welcome. Just as in John Paul’s life and work, all are welcome.

I checked both websites’ ratings(fidelity, etc.)- c-fam.org (Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute) that host the petition form and crossroadsinitiative.com that has this info by catholicculture.org.
catholicculture.org/sites/sites_browse.cfm?browseby=category

Both are reliable sources.
Please check the websites’ ratings if you want.

And please sign the petition form! Thank you!

Well “the devils advocate” will have a field day at his canonisation process.

Seriously - any Catholics out there feeling just a bit uncomfortable about the “Great” thing.

This is a man who invited the worlds false religions to come to Catholic churchs and break the FIRST commandment.

He allowed abuse of various kinds (liturgical, sexual) to carry on unchecked for 25 years when he had FULL authority to do something about it.

He kissed the Koran!

Maybe he repented before he died.

I hope so.

batteddy: Thank you for mentioning that pope. Some say there are 2 popes and some say there are 3 with the title “Great”. I hope that it doesn’t happen to our beloved Pope John Paul II.

John_19_59: Unfortunately we dont’ share same opinion and experience about the Pope John Paul II. We have one less petition then. I think he was the man who show that how high human beings can reach within their capacity as children of God.

It’s shocking that the Pope John Paul II and Mother Teresa were constantly attacked about what they did, what they didn’t accroding to each party’s agenda without true understanding of their deep spirituality, rather than being given a fiar assessment of their genuine, holy uncessing work.

I am not here forcing anybody to sign! Please sign on the petition form if you think that the Pope JP II influence yoru life and want to show your appreciation, and want to add one drop of your prayer for Pope John Paul II. The title “saint” “the Great” are for us anyway. He doesn’t need those tiles!

Oh, it is not shocking.

Jesus Christ himself and his message was and is also not welcomed, not understood, not appreciated, and severely criticized. What can I say more?

The first commandment states…

“Thou shalt not worship false Gods before me”.

As far as I know that commandment is still in force.

A Pope who invites people to gather and break that commandment has to have his fidelity to Gods commands questioned.

Think “Golden Calf” and what God thought about that.

I don’t see where “Great” is coming from.

To be charitable, John Paul II was at least mis-guided in his attitudes and actions to other false religions.

His attitudes and actions have fostered world indifference to religion.

Catholics don’t see the point anymore because apparantly all religions are good (and capable of salvation).

Also he was Pope for 25 years! 25 years to sort out the abuse of all kinds by the clergy in the Catholic Church. And he didn’t.

“Great”?

Its an insult to Pope St Gregory who WAS faithful to Catholic teaching.

There was also Pope Nicholas the Great…

And St. Leo IV (847-855) - he’s always forgotten 🙂

You seem to have no problem serving as judge. Maybe he repented? So you are assigning sin to a fellow Christian based on your particular bias?

I do not think the opinion of a few fringe Catholics who consider themselves more knowledgeable and orthodox than the pope, bishops and cardinals, will amount to a hill of beans.

I encourage everyone to reject radical traditional propaganda and look for truth in our mother the Church. Citing snipets out of context makes no more sense than taking a single verse out of context.

Thanks for the web site, I went there and registered my signature! He was the best! I hope I live long enough to see him become a Saint!:yup:
