Here’s a thought. What if there is a place in Heaven for all who live according to God’s will? That animals were not granted free will, one must conclude that they live according to God’s will for they have no other option. That Man would seek and choose to do God’s will when he is free to do otherwise places him above the animals in the hierarchy of God’s plan, but I do not see how one can automatically conclude from that that only those who choose to do God’s will go to heaven, while those who do His will by design do not.

I do not believe anyone can make a serious or meaningful case using Christian or any other theology that I know of on why animals wouldn’t go to heaven either.
So then why did God single man out to be made in his image? What is unique to God that could be reflected in man? Not man’s body since God has no body. God is an immortal spirit. The only way man can be made in the image of God is to possess an immortal spirit. God did not make the animals in his image. Therefore, animals possess a mortal spirit which dies when the body dies.

To be honest I’ve never really thought of God as a spirit but as all encompassing. As to what is unique to God that can be reflected in Man? The act of creation. Of all of God’s creations only Man is blessed with the ability to create. God made us co-creators in his image.

Ummm animals create, beavers create whole ecosystems, animals breed, farm, build, destroy, what do you mean only man creates?

When I speak of creation I’m not referring to the manipulation of God’s creation through the arrangement of sticks, or the natural processes of God’s creation like reproduction, but Man’s ability to manifest his thoughts and beliefs into reality, shaping his world and determining his future through the power of Mind.

Proverbs 4:23 “Keep thy heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life.”

Jesus teaches that we LITERALLY shall have whatever we say, that our words determine our future.

Mark 11:22-24 “…Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass: he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them and ye shall have them.”

Only God and Man, created in His image, are empowered to actually create the path Life takes. Animals and all other creations of God, even the angels, are not so empowered.

Another thought regarding the idea that only that which is made in God’s image is immortal: unless I’m mistaken, the angels weren’t made in God’s image yet aren’t they immortal, and in heaven?

I sure hope so. I lost my favorite Persian last night. Kidney failure and it was quite sudden.

It could be animals do not need to be saved because they are already saved. They are assured of a place in heaven. What does an animal do anyway that would be sinful? All they do is be an animal and most are a darn sight better than all of us.

They are put in the earth to serve man so I would hope they go to heaven. After all, we learn a lot from animals. How to be compassionate among other important truths. How could we forget them when we go to heaven anyway?

In the Bible there are different beings described often, some even in visions from Heaven. It is not only humans/angels/spirits that are ever spoken about, animals are in there too.

i have a hard time seeing jellyfish and mosquitoes in heaven, but i guess there they won’t need to sting or bite and will only add to the ambiance

The lion shall lie down with the lamb. I sure hope we get to see it.

I was thinking something similar to that as well. I sure hope so. Animals are such pure creatures, and I simple cannot imagine our pets not sharing Heaven with us.

I look into my dogs eyes and see God’s creature and our creation. There is something so beautiful and deep in that animal and companion. She follows my every step and action to be with me. What a blessing we have been given. When I walk out to get the mail she guards the whole area with lots of warning barks. Such an amazing gift we have been given. I have a newly acquired cat colony. The wild mother cat had 4 kittens last August. She calls them in from the fields when I take over the food for them. She lets them eat first and if there isn’t enough she has allready gone to the next area where I feed another colony. She is one of the ugliest gray cats I have ever seen but underneath she has a heart of gold and a wonderful mother. I pray to the Blessed Mother Mary when my dogs have had health problems or dying. For the wild ferals I ask Saint Francis for help. Trapping and getting them fixed is very difficult. On a final note I have never been let down in getting help. When I think I am making to much over animals I think of that saying God knows even the Sparrow

Personally I don’t think that animals have spirits (the immortal part of us) but the have souls. I know that people have both spirits and souls although people tend to use the terms interchangeably. (I figure that the spirit is the immortal part because in the Bible it says that God is spirit)

Agreed. Animals cannot sin, they have no free will.

St Thomas Aquinas said animals and plants have mortal souls. I am not sure what he meant, maybe lifeforce. The Church does not say anything about animals in heaven. I believe animals go to heaven maybe just because God loves them. I do too.🙂

Love is not limited, the more you love, the more there is. God bless you for caring about he other of God’s creatures too.

Well, the soul is the “life force” which is mortal, while the spirit is the immortal part of us. I think that is what he meant.
