, I’m just wondering what the practice is on pewter medals with regards to a more Traditional Catholicism. Here, by ‘pewter medals’, is meant: those little round pendants which have a saintly image upon them. Around the image is usually the saint’s name, followed by ‘pray for us’. The reverse side is usually smooth and blank or containing Our Lady/the Holy Ghost. In Canadian, they are about $15.95, and worn about the neck with a chain.
Is this something old, or relatively new? What is the practice behind it?
(If my meaning isn’t clear, watch the All in the Family episode called Edith’s Conversion, from Season 4. A saint Anne pewter is very prominently displayed.
