The link above addresses how the LDS temple has been accepted in Philadephia.
And as a teaser there is a blurb at the end regarding redevelopment plans by the Philadelphia Catholic Archdiocese. Enjoy!!
That looks like a nice temple. I’m very glad that Mormons will make use of the place, considering:
In Philly, though, the Mormon effort has had “a healing influence on the whole city,” a city planning commissioner wrote in an email to LDS officials. “This property was vacant for years, a kind of hole in the middle of that part of the city … a kind of no-man’s land.”
Although I’m not in Philadelphia, I’d welcome them! 😉

It’s not as pretty as the one in Portland. The spires coming thru the trees make it look like a fairy castle. I see it when I visit my sister - love it. I wish more churches were as beautiful.

No need: the one in Boston is less than an hour away 😃
Maybe help tidy some things up? Get the ball rolling? 🤷 180 years is a long time to wait. Besides, it’d give you a place to ‘tarry’. 😃

Pleased a temple is in the city relative to the purpose of the temple.

Historically a asset added to a community, city, etc. is good thing from a real estate standpoint, particularly like Philly.

Definitely one of their more original and yet traditional temple designs. Glad it’s not one of the cookie cutter ones they’ve been throwing up all over the place the last few years. They’re comparatively boring buildings from an architectural and aesthetic standpoint. Having lived near the San Diego Temple off and on for a number of years I’m used to their more original and flamboyant designs.

Around these parts, where the cookie cutter temples went up all over the place, they are called McTemples.

Which are the “cookie cutter” temples?

Is the temple of the image one of them? I think this one in particular is beautiful. I don’t like others, though (like Provo, Washington, Oakland or Rome).

This LDS site lists and has pictures of all the LDS temples

ldschurchtemples.com/temples/

If you click on the “Chronology” tabs you can view them in order of dedication. The Phila temple is the 152nd. Many of the newer temple pages include a virtual tour.

Rome :eek::eek::eek:

In the 1990’s and 2000’s there was a rapid expansions of many temples, bringing them closer to people around the world so people may more easily come to them. This is important because temple are used for sacramental purposes, including sacramental marriages (I’m saying this from the LDS perspective but using Catholic-ese).

Anyway, LDS being a practical people used very similar floor plans for many of these temples (as opposed to constantly reinventing the wheel). Because the their similarity, they are sometimes nicknamed “cookie-cutter”. They are also small buildings (again the purpose was to spread them out).

At the bottom is one such example from Minnesota.

No, those were built 1990’s and 2000’s.

Yep Rome.

It broke ground in 2010 and is completed on the outside. The inside fitting out should be complete by 2018 at which time they’ll dedicate and open it. It’s about 16 km NE from St. Peter’s.

What a beautiful house of God for the great city in our great country.

Praying for opportunity to see in person and perform work inside relative to the reason or purpose the temple was built.

Happy for Philly and that part of USA.

Again I ask, why no Temple in Salem? That would be the logical choice for a new LDS Temple in the area.

Have LDS simply given up on Joseph Smith having ‘power’ over the city? Or ‘wealth pertaining to gold and silver’? Or gathering out ‘many people’ because of Joseph Smith’s ‘instrumentality’?

Maybe the plan is to eventually remove this particular prophecy from the D&C’s? Or are there plans to eventually build a Temple in Salem in an attempt to fulfill this prophecy?

🤷

Campeador, why do you spend your time mocking other people?
