You will not believe this but the city council passed a resolution that stated that Philadelphia is pro-choice. A council member was approached by a Planned Parenthood representative with the idea. Check the PA pro life website for the full article. Planned Parenthood now wants other cities to follow Philadelphia

Ugh. Another reason to be happy I’m moving away from here. This makes me sick.

The will of the people is a powerful thing. So is separation of church and state. Laws don’t solve the abortion problem, policies do.

I moved out of the Philly area about 2.5 year ago and PA 2 years ago. After my mother moved to VA to be near my brother, I will have no reason to even go back to PA :extrahappy:

Well, I vote that we make the Catholic Answers Forum officially “pro-life”

Reasons why I don’t like it here. Sadly, I am not suprised, this state(at least the eastern side) and city is VERY liberal. They even made a big thing about Rosie Odonell’s tour coming around here. We are following in the footsteps of Pittsburg(happy sparkle season instead of Merry Christmas) just with more serious issues.

From Article:
The pro-abortion resolution proclaims Philadelphia as a “Pro-Choice City” which supports “women’s reproductive rights and freedom” and defends “the right to choose a legal and :hmmm: safe abortion :hmmm: as a final but critical option for women.”
Depends on your definition of “safe”. Safe for who?

City of Brotherly Love needs a refresher course.

My goodness. Can you imagine a city declaring itself “Pro-Life” or “Pro-Traditional Family Values”? Whether or not the Church had any role in such a situation, the media would be screaming bloody murder about Separation of Church and State and how cities shouldn’t make such “ideological” declarations.

I can see the ACLU complaining about that city a lot. Actually a town like that(sorta) will be created in Florida, it will be some sort of Catholic town, I would move there someday, but I want to go far north not south. The ACLU has already complained about it.

I’ve always been able to say that I believe abortions should be “safe, legal, and rare”. You show me the safe abortion, one that doesn’t kill someone, and I’ll work to legalize it. 😉

No sweat here. I have found your “safe abortion”. It is called abstinence. No sex, no pregnancy! No pregnancy, no abortion! No abortion is safe abortion! And Black Jaque, you don’t have to work at all, because abstinence is already legal!

Philadelphia is no longer pro-choice!!!

From article:
Philadelphia is no longer officially a “pro-choice city.”
By a vote of 13-4 today, City Council rescinded last week’s symbolic declaration making Philadelphia a “pro-choice” city that supported “women’s reproductive rights and freedom” and defended “the right to choose a legal and safe abortion as a final but critical option for women.”
The original resolution passed by a 9-8 vote, surprising sponsor Blondell Reynolds Brown who had not expected the declaration to be controversial. Cardinal Justin Rigali swiftly condemned the resolution, and complaints flooded into some council members’ offices.
The resolution rescinding last week’s proclamation was sponsored by Councilman Frank Rizzo, who said the entire episode had been an embarrassment.
“I think that we should stay away from issues like this that cause division in our city,” Rizzo said.
Switching sides from last week were council members, Jim Kenney, Frank DiCicco, Donna Reed Miller, Daniel Savage and Wilson Goode Jr.
In a speech from the floor today, Kenney stressed that he personally was pro-choice, but had decided upon reflection that it was an inappropriate issue for council to wade into.
Praise God! And thank you Cardinal Rigali and all others who complained!

Don’t you just love it when the Holy Spirit works through good decent people to bring about change for this hurting world. And boy was that fast- that spirit was working in high gear!!!

Thank God for the cardinal - he was not silent on the issue.

I guess it is back to the City of Brotherly Love again.

Hi,
A few months ago,I had a chat to my teenage children about some Church/moral issues such as homosexuality, cohabitating, divorce etc. Although I am raising them as Catholics and they go to a Catholic high school they still think all of the above is fine, everyone does it so it must be okay. Obviously I am trying to get across to them the Churches’ teachings on these. I made my major point to them, and I have used this with other people too, as I believe it gets a good point across, that probably in the next 50 years (probably being for the time frame only) pedophilia will be acceptable in society, can you imagine that. They were both horrified and said it couldn’t possibly, of which I said that’s what children said 50 years ago about homosexuality (I’m guessing). I was a victim of pedophilia, and it is so prevalient nowdays, and I bet my bottom dollar that it will be an acceptible practice in years to come (not that many by the look of the OP). The further society move away from God and the Church the more evil it becomes.
