Anyone ever seen or read a copy of the Philadelphia Trumpet published by the church of Herbert Armstrong? I’ve been receiving it for several years tho’ I never requested a subscription.According to the magazine Herbert Armstrong was a “prophet” in that he could interpret the Bible to discern present events. He demonizes the Pope as the anti-Christ and says when the New Testament says Israel and Judah it means the US and Great Britain.

I think one of the people in the office I work in paid for the subscription.

I have sent numerous letters to them via snail-mail and e-mail that I enjoy their humor magazine but they haven’t ever responded.

The World-wide Church of God was/is an interesting group. I have a friend who is a member of one of those groups - Saturday sabboth, no holiday celebrations etc.
I remember listening to Garner Ted Armstrong years ago.

I’ve read the Philadelphia Trumpet, but it isn’t really worth the time.

I’ve never heard of the “Philadelphia Trumpet”…but I use to get Herbert W. Armstorng and Garner Ted Armstrong’s "The World Tomorrow"magazine. They were the leaders of the Worldwide Church of God. As I understand under Garner Ted’s leadership they moved from a very off center Christian stance to a more orthodox stance.

They use to teach “British Israelism”…the so-called “lost tribes of Israel” migrated north and settled in the British Isles and America was part of prophesy of scripture. They believed in the “Family of God” which began with the “Father, Son and Holy Spirit” and through the work of Christ those who followed their message would become part of this Heavenly Family…we were not distinct creatures from God but of the same species…similar to Mormonism in that respect.

Herbert Armstrong’s teaching were authoritive…I don’t know if there is an off-shoot of the Worldwide Church of God or not that still holds to the original teachings…but I believe Garner Ted or his successors led the church into a more evangelical/orthodox stance on doctrine. They also worshipped on Saturday if I remember correctly.

From a Protestant perspective, the transformation of the WWCG is unparalled in history as far as I am concerned. We need to acknowledge the transformation and not link them with existing Armstrong related groups.

I’ve looked over their last 3-4 issues. That church is in dire straits, much conspiracy and infighting going on now within a splintered flock.

They recently proposed that Christ was not crucified on Good Friday. They are very anti-Pope. Their leader Gerald Flurry also has a weekly TV program … and is not credible in his many prophetic claims.

The Philadephia Church of God was started by Armstrong influenced people but is not the WWCG.

That’s the divisive question they now fight over.

They are headquartered in Kansas. Their Bible College is in ruins. And they are fighting their own brothers … that kicked them out of the WWCG. Gerald Flurry is thought to be the new offshoot of Hebert W. Armstrong. He is the Joshua who will take them to the promise land. They now see their brothers, who kicked them out … as under control of antichrist.

The Philadelphia Church of God is based in Edmond Oklahoma (my nephews live there). I do not believe they are in ruins…🤷

The WWCG itself lost members but they thankfully appear to be doing well. Its a great story really for them.

My bad … yes, it OK, not KS, for their Headquarters.

However, about the church being in harmony ? Not a chance. Have you read Gerald Flurry’s book MALACHI’S MESSAGE, to God’s Church Today, 2008 revision ] ?? Take a look at final chapters 8 & 9 ---- and tell me WW3 is not going on among them.

Absolutely shocking info on the massive infighting within the brethren.

I guess that it is still good for wrapping your fish or lining your birdcage or starting a bar-b-q fire. 🤷

Thanks for all the replies. I didn’t realize that the WWCG or as I deeem it the church of Herbert Armstrong was so well known.

From Gerald Flurry’s book MALACHI’S MESSAGE … which pits the PCG [Philadelphia Church of God] which he heads, against the WCG [Worldwide Church of God] which has abandoned it’s erstwhile belief that the End Time Prophet [Elijah] aka, Hebert W. Armstrong has come to earth.

"The true gospel is the good news of the coming Kingdom, or Family, of God. God’s GOVERNMENT IS ADMINISTERED BY THE FAMILY OF GOD. Mr. Armstrong taught that in the WCG for many years. That doctrine was changed after Mr. Armstrong died [1986]. Now the WCG teaches that “Christ is the central figure of the gospel.” That is tragically unbiblical ! Gospel means “good news”. It’s the “good news” of the coming Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is the FAMILY of God. And who is the Head of the Family? Christ ? Of course not ! The Father is the Head of the Family. God the Father is the central figure of the gospel !

No man can come to Christ “except the Father which hath sent me draw him” [John 6:44]. The Father begets his own children. Not even Christ can do that ! So we can see why the Father asks, “WHERE IS MINE HONOR?” This is the heart of the gospel ! The Father is the central figure, but the WCG has moved away from God’s true gospel and now preaches “another gospel.”

When the Great Tribbulation comes, everyone will know who is Laodicean [WCG] and who is Philadelphian [PCG]. The Laodiceans will be in the Tribulation. The Philadelphians will be in a place of safety. … The gospel, or “good news”, reveals that God is about to intervene directly in this world’s affairs so He can rule and usher in the wonderful WORLD TOMORROW."

Leader Flurry is truly delusional …
