Dear Friends,

Today I received in the mail a prayer rope I ordered from Mr. Rolfes.

I thought it deserved its own thread because, please believe me, I have never seen nor held in my hands such a beautiful piece of spiritual artistry that just took my breath away.

The Master Beadsman outdoes himself each time and I just don’t know how he does it.

I will have this prayer rope blessed and will keep it by me always - it is already around my arm as I write this.

It just fills me with such joy and awe to hold and finger such a thing of beauty by our very own Beadsman - I am deeply moved and cannot thank Phillip (if I may call him by his first name …) enough.

An amazing, amazing talent, my friends, a true Ladder to Heaven!

Thank you SIR!

🙂

Alex

Pictures don’t do justice as to just how beatiful Phillip’s work is.

I would like to add my voice to the chorus. My prayer rope is always on my wrist. It calls me to prayer.

Alex, I take it the your Russian rope finally arrived. I’m so relieved to hear it. Wait until you see your new mequtarias that are coming. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. As always, thank you for your kind words, and remember this poor sinner in your prayers. Oh, and yes, you are more than welcome to call me by my first name. It is, after all, a gift my late mother bestowed upon me and I bear it proudly. 😃

Tim, Thank you for posting some new photos. I’ve been meaning to do so myself, but I don’t know where my camera is right now and don’t really know where to begin looking for it. 😊

That is gorgeous! How much does he sell them for?
That is a 100 knot Russian style rope that goes for $30 plus shipping. Tim was kind enough to barter with me (something I enjoy doing).

I should point out that since all of my ropes are hand-tied by myself, no two are ever exactly the same.

I would love to be able to simply give these ropes away to everyone who is interested in the Jesus Prayer, but sadly, the economy being what it is, I am prevented. Perhaps one day I’ll win the lottery and be able to retire at a young age and dedicate myself full-time to making and giving away prayer ropes. Hey, if I’m going to dream I might as well dream big! 😛

Thank you, Pat! I hope you have many years of ever-deepening prayer using the small tool/“sword” I made for you. Please remember me to our Lord and His Mother.

I have seen Phillip’s work in person and it is indeed excellent. Our parish’s store sells his ropes.

Hi Phillip,

I just got my Art of Prayer book today. Would you mind pming me with pics?

Thanks.

How does one walk around with a prayer rope on one’s wrist? Are they short?
You find a way to tie it. I must admit the 50-knot one I ordered from Phillip doesn’t fasten too well to my wrist, so I don’t wear it when i walk around lest it falls off. I only wear it when I’m in church, including Roman Catholic Mass. Otherwise its always in my pocket.

Is it… err… office friendly?

Another reason why I won’t wear mine at work is because I work off a laptop and it would really bother my typing. But when I’m commuting I would bring it out and pray. And if I’m not praying, I’m still holding on to the rope unless I really need both hands, then I put it in my pocket.

Adding my voice to the throng.

I, too, recently received a prayer rope made by the hand of our Master Beadsman. It is truly a thing of exquisite beauty. There really is nothing like it.

If you are looking for a prayer rope, Master Phillip is da man! 😃

Anyone know if a Roman Catholic priest would bless a prayer rope?
It’s perfectly acceptable to have prayer ropes blessed by Roman priests. They are, after all, still priests of the Church!

Good to hear. What is a good length for a dainty woman to start with? 🤷

Well, not that dainty. 😃
If you’re wanting to wear it on your wrist I recommend either the 33 or the 100 knot ropes. My personal preference is for the 100 knot ropes, but I have a couple of friends (one who is always reordering from me) who prefer the 33 knot ropes. 'Tis really a matter of taste.
