My sister’s work friend knows a girl who works for sprint , and can make our bill cheaper than it would be (getting blackberry’s). I don’t know how she’s doing that. But, is this a sin for me and my sister??? Mortal ? Sry I just want to ask , bc I feel like it’s ok but don’t know.

By the way, I already have a blackberry, and my sister and I our both on verizon. she wants a blackberry, and sprint it cheaper, but if we cancel the plan we have now it will charge us. So, this girl can do that with no charge.
 
You friend is putting her job in danger.

Stealing phone service is not a moral thing to do.
 
If it’s something the Sprint employee is allowed to do by her employer, then it’s perfectly fine. If she is going to be doing something deceitful in getting these to you, then it’s not. You would helping her steal/bear false witness.

My guess is it’s some sort of promotional thing to lure you away from Verizon, which is perfectly legitimate, as a business practice. I’m not sure how a Spring employee could cancel your contract with Verizon, though. That doesn’t sound right. Be careful you have all the facts before you sign anything, as you could end up liable for both bills. 😦 She may be stretching the facts in order to make a sale to you.
 
Chances are she is going to attempt to port the phone number from the old provider without their permission. This is unethical.

I didn’t realize that you would need the old providers permission. If you change services you are allowed to keep your current number. You may have to pay a fee for breaking the contract…but I don’t think you need their permission.

I could be wrong. Verizon did it for me when I left ATT and all ATT wanted was the fee to be paid.
 
Well, from what my sister and I get from the girl is that it’s allowed by the company. But we aren’t sure how she’s doing it or what. either way, is that a mortal sin? :confused:

It would seem to me that if she is doing it legally within the company than it’s fine. If she’s jumping through illegal hoops to get it done and you don’t know about it then it’s her sin. If you do know about it being illegal then it’s all your sins. Mortal? I don’t know. Sounds as though you are quite concerned about it though. Maybe that should tell you something.

I think the government ruled that one had a right to keep the old number when changing providers a couple of years or so ago.
 
I’m concerned bc I dnt know how these things work, but if we were to cancel with verizon we would be charged for a cancellation fee, but this girl is doing it so we won’t. I’m thinking that’s not allowed but I don’t even know! I just dnt want to be living in a sin I don’t even know is a sin or not

You signed a contract with a provider.

Call the provider and ask them how you can get out of that contract. To break a contract may be a sin, that would be a question for your confessor. It also may be illegal and could get you sued, that is a question for your attorney.

IF the number is portable, and while it may not be illegal, non concurred ports are considered unethical. 20 years in the business.

That being said…something unethical does nothing for the greater glory of God.
 
I think i will ask my priest and see. Since it has already been set up, i don;t know how we can go back to our old contract , but i probably will ask my sister if we can since you all are saying it is a sin. this might be a dumb question, but if i confess this to a priest but yet still have our phones, is that wrong? only because i don;t know how we would go back to our old contract.
 
ok, so one of my friends just told me that sprint allows this, because another lady did this for her too. she said bc they don’t want to lose the sale. not sure if anyone knows about this ?
