I’m a young man who found his love for God and I desire to stay as pure as possible.

The battle is hard a lot of days and I was wondering if phone sex is a mortal sin or just grave matter if the act of masturbating is not involved?

Hello! As a young man myself, I share your concern over purity. It seems like sex is the #1 selling point of anything these days. :o

To answer your question, any time a person seeks sexual pleasure outside the martial act, and outside marriage, it is a grave matter. For it to be a mortal sin, the person must know that it is a grave matter and a mortal sin, and they must deliberately commit the sin despite their knowledge.

YES it is a mortal sin (Grave matter for mortal sin)…

As are thoughts etc…

Of course remember one needs full knowledge and complete consent…so if you dial a wrong number and get something bad…just hang up. Do not consent to any thoughts that may pop in your mind etc…

Keep striving to follow Jesus!

And make sure you read these:

“phone sex” What does this mean? You talk dirty to someone or someone talks dirty to you for money?

Not a good idea. Not good for the soul and a waste of time.

God bless,
Ed

If you find yourself unable to believe the full Church teaching on sexuality, at least save yourself for a real girlfriend. phone sex, or internet paid sex, or paid porn is way way expensive and a huge waste of money!

without masturbation, yes phone sex can still be grave matter. so you can burn in hell for all eternity because of it. sorry.

I don’t like it, but that’s the Truth, the rules, and the way things are, cause the Church says so.

Good luck, and I pray that you truly find love for God and live with purity in a loving relationship with God. I’m trying and just can’t see the point of it, but that’s’ just me.

This is grave matter and a sin against the ninth commandment:

vatican.va/archive/catechism/p3s2c2a9.htm

You say you desire to stay as pure as possible, but yet wonder if “phone sex” is ok-- or at least if it’s not a mortal sin (implying you desire to engage in it). No it is not ok. It is a sin against purity, a sin in your heart, and a sin in thought and speech.

Mortal sin requires full knowledge and free will. Although I suspect you already know this is wrong, the fact that you are asking indicates some level of confusion. So, perhaps you are not culpable for past acts as a mortal sin, but perhaps a venial one.

Chastity requires more than just physical restraint.
