This beautiful photo shows the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Chanthaburi, Thailand, which has this statue of the Virgin Mary in front.
(Thailand is a country in Asia with 70 million people, 90% of whom are Buddhist. There are 300,000 Catholics in Thailand.)

Is it culturally insensitive to have a statue of a female, Mary?

That’s - a majority vote.
Be it as it may…I have that statue on my bedroom bureau.
So to see that sized statue - is tremendous !
Esp. braving the elements !
Love the compassion of Mary’s pose.
Dignified and divine.
 
there are a few nations that are overwhelming one religion, but permit catholics to live in peace amongst them; but certainly not all
