He was a captive of terrorists for four months after the terrorists took over the cathedral. He was a prisoner as a great battle raged between Muslim terrorists and the Philippine army after the terrorists took control of the city in the Philippines. During the battle that destroyed the city he was forced to disarm unexploded explosives, to have gunpowder for new weapons. Finally after four months he escaped.
